Oskwell's speed and mobility doesn't come from any real devices other than his wind-aspected spear, which allows him greater jump control. During his two-eyed prime, he had no problem peforming jumps from any angle, side-angle jumps to cross distances fast, jumping off the ceiling, off of people onto other people, etc etc. Extended hiatus from Ishgard has since dulled his jumping skills, but he's on the road to retraining them in the hopes of getting them back where they once were.

Lancing and Dancing Without Dragooning
Flashhelix replied to Steel Wolf's topic in Character Workshop
Metallic Silver is a good look, though Wolfram stuff is a set where just about any color looks good, due to the material. The weird part is that all colors are actually a shade darker on the darklight stuff. So if you want your darklight gear to match something dyed, say, deepwood green, you'll have to die it nophica green. Woad blue to match ink blue, etc. it's weird -
Lancing and Dancing Without Dragooning

Can't do much for the shield, but the Wolfram set for DRG looks pretty nifty. Stolen from reddit, here's the list: Weapon: Holy Lance Head: Darklight Helm (Cerulean Blue) Body: Cuirass of Divine Wisdom Hands: Iron Scale Fingers (Snow White) Legs: Linen Gaskins (Snow White) Feet: Iron Scale Greaves (Snow White) pic: what I use for my "heavily-armored lancer" look. Most heavy-looking DRG armor is gonna be dungeon gear or pricey crafted stuff, otherwise you've just got scale mail, chainmail and generic DoW stuff to work with -

"Why's your cat so fat?" "What are you feeding him?" "Sir, it keeps chewing on my foot, can you make it stop?" "Oh dear gods, my leg!" also "How'd you lose the eye?" Not because he doesn't like to talk about it but he can never remember which lie to tell about it

As Hyur #100000, how do you distinguish yourself from the others? This is a stupid prejudice that's only applied to Miqo'te (and now Au Ra) Rpers by smug hipster RPers. The fact of the matter is that just as many RPers (or more) are Hyur and don't come to this website, but no one laments that Hyur are so plentiful or comments that they don't really consider them in RP because there's "just so many". It's just a smug hipster way of trying to present yourself as a better RPer for not playing one. So as Au Ra #51412 I'll distinguish myself by being a good writer and someone who is fun and compelling to RP with, I'd do the same thing if I was Au Ra # 100000. I agree with this, but without the unnecessary name-calling. ^^ I don't think it's unnecessary to call a smug hipster idea smug, or hipster, but I'm more addressing his poor way of considering other RPers than him directly. Also, I'm calling the prejudice stupid, not him. There is a difference. It really just sounds like you're calling him stupid. More on-topic, if I could stand alting at all, I probably would go w/ an Au Ra just for kicks. Xaela being nomads probably means they're more open to a wider range of concepts so I think we'll see more people playing those than Raeeaeaean.

That's subjective, though. Really subjective. There's actually nothing subjective about it. It boils down to the more inventive mind. The one who can come up with the most clever application of what their characters can do. Sometimes it boils down to the person just finding a way to do something in a fight that has you sitting back going, 'Damn. I really don't think I could beat this or get out of it fairly. I'll take that hit gladly, props to the other player.' There's nothing subjective about someone being exceptionally clever. If they manage it, that's awesome. If they don't, I don't want a computer program saying that my writing and well thought out tactics mean absolute shit because I got one lower number than someone else on a die. I save that for mass conflicts that have to be resolved quickly, or my D&D game. And even then, it's never just 'flat numbers', especially as characters get stronger. How willing would you be to put dice in control of what happens to your character if there was no need for permission for character death, but a loss, even one to a minor character with no skill, means permadeath, a fantasia, a name change, and re-rolling your toon, with months (and sometimes years) of work lost? Because I guarantee you, very few people would be as eager to yell 'dice rolls!' if rolling a 1 when you need a 10 means you lose that character permanently. Except there's everything subjective about it. There's no GM, so it's the players who decide whether or not an attack is inescapable or not, or whether something can be countered, so it just leads to a whole lot of "No, my roleplay > your roleplayer" and blacklists all around. A writer who puts a lot of thought into their characters' tactics should also be able convincingly write why their character is losing to somebody with less experience/physical ability/laser eyes/whatever.

I write Oskwell as an experienced lancer. A damned good lancer, even, having been training for nearly half his life. Do I mind him losing? Not at all. Am I picky about who he loses to? Not at all. Which is why I use rolls. You may think that something about your character, whether it's how you've written them or how much time you've spent writing them or even something else, makes them "too good" to be beaten by a character you don't think would be able to beat them, but at that point it seems like a problem of your word against another's. When you say "I don't wanna roll-fight because it wouldn't suit how I've written them" you're assuming quite a lot of the other character of the equation. There's plenty of ways to win a fight. Oskwell isn't so sacred a character that I lose my mind whenever he loses to an amateur lalafell lancer. Osk has lost multiple times to those that could be called less skilled than himself, whether it's through his handicap, prior injuries hindering him, various dirty tactics, outside interference, etc. Rolls don't do anything but determine the outcome and the general tone (a quick, decisive victory vs. a long, drawn-out and hard-fought win, for instance) of the fight, and those are two things that hardly hinder my writing. In most fiction, it's quite easy to keep powerlevels and who should win what fight because there's one author. In roleplay, there's many authors, and when there's many authors, there's discrepancies. Just look at any long-running comic book for reference. Flash can outrun Death himself and kick the shit out of Superman in a race one day, and get flattened by the likes of Captain Cold and other street-level rogues the next. And this is comics, where a title changes hands every few years. In roleplay, you have a separate author behind every single character, so the best way to go about things is just to dispel the image that you're writing a fantasy epic and think more like you're writing a comic book. The strength of characters should change to encourage good roleplay, instead of roleplay accommodating who players think they should and shouldn't be able to beat and in what way.

Meow. (And his owner, where he's mentioned.) Bulwark, the fattest cattest, has been at Oskwell's side for a couple months now. The girtheous feline was found hanging around a few coeurls, attempting to feed off what little was left on the carcasses they fed on. Naturally, for a true fat cat, this was not nearly enough to sate his hunger, so when some big two-legged animal comes along dangling a freshly-slaughtered marmot, he didn't hesitate to call the man his brand new pack leader. The cat's got an appetite somewhere between vacuum and black hole. He's been known to clean out entire pantries in minutes, and eat many times his weight in dead marmots. Being a cat, he doesn't really discriminate. He tries to eat Oskwell constantly, and isn't afraid to try and snack on any prying fingers that try petting him. Normally this would amount to a horrible pet, but Bulwark's so round and out-of-shape that this just amounts to a cute nibbling on any nearby digits.
