My Brother's Keeper IC Thread [Closed]
Martiallais replied to GloryRhodes's topic in Town Square (IC)
With most of his preparations for the journey to Amdapoor done, Martiallais signed, sitting down at the desk provided with his room to see the last item on his lengthy to do list completed. Only then would he settle in and rest for the eve. Madam Inquisitor Floret, While I am told your duties oft keep you busy and far from the comforts of our home, I pray that this message reaches you on pleasant winds and the Fury herself's good tidings. I was instructed to contact you by one of your colleagues, Inquisitor Vidocq, due to the potential connection between the matters both you and he currently investigate. I speak, of course, of the matters regarding one former Inquisitor Xanadu Mol, the current search for her whereabouts and her intentions. I, myself, am but a knight in service to our home and the Fury. My involvement in this is due largely to my prior work with former Inquisitor Mol during a matter some moons ago which saw the return of Ishgardian steel, once believed to be lost and then stolen, to it's proper home in the hands of our own Temple Knights. I have attached my personal report regarding that incident as well. In the suns following that, I have encountered former Inquisitor Mol on multiple occasions, both professional and personal. She is...certainly eccentric and records surely show that I, skeptical as I was of her position, sought to verify it personally. However, despite...or rather because of, my past dealings with her, I would wish to be of aid to you if at all possible. It is a knight's duty to serve, after all. And if mine knowledge or mine shield can be used to prevent harm from coming to the people of Ishgard or those beyond our borders, then I would gladly offer it. I am well aware of your skill with the bow and the favor you have among our people. I have no doubt that this will be yet another feather in your cap as your aim is guided by the Fury herself. But if there is aught I can do, mayhaps we could meet to discuss what we know in the near future. Given that you are known to be both efficient and effective, for ease I can certainly arrange to rendezvous with you in the field. Yours in Duty, Honor, and Faith, -Ser Martiallais Heuloix -
It may or may not be worth considering/adding to this convo now but if you're going the path of aether using martial artist, there was (if memory serves) a Raen player here on the forum back when Au Ra were first announced who stated their character basically practiced at a school in Doma. So something like that could be an option/inspiration of sorts as well. It's not so different, in that case, from players who roleplay using a giant sword but don't have Dark Knight powers.

The last book I read was Transformers: Retribution and prior to that was Gears of War: The Slab. Ssssh stop judging me. Currently working my way through House of Leaves now that I've got a renewed interest in it after being hung up on a puzzle for a bit.

A Wolf's Knighting [CLOSED, OOC WELCOME]
Martiallais replied to Steel Wolf's topic in Town Square (IC)
Though dawn had come early for the knight, habit, more than anything, saw Martiallais rise wearily and begin his day. Moving past the other knights as the tolling bells signaled their own change in shifts, thoughts of the day prior continued to weigh heavily upon the Elezen's shoulders. Once more rising unbidden to his mind it felt much like a slow, steady tightening of invisible confines akin to slowly tangling oneself in vines or sand where thrashing about would only serve to hasten the tightening until there was no hope of escape. That image left him wearing what could only be described as a scowl while his gaze lingered on the notice board. The usual mass of reports, inquiries, and requests were listed though he couldn't bring himself to focus on it today. Shuffling over to peer at the routes for the day, he paused, rubbing at his eyes then pressed a palm to his face. "It seems tis not my day for a morning patrol." Letting out a quiet breath, Martiallais gathered his things and stepped out into the brisk air sweeping through the courtyard. Having misread his schedule, he had two choices...either make a quick escape and attempt to gather himself or if he lingered too long with idle hands, he'd surely be put to work. With his mind troubled and the chilled air having ensured he was well awake, there was but one place the knight knew go till time to begin his duties. Within half a bell the cathedral loomed ahead of him, seeming just as large in his eyes now as it had the first time his mother had walked him up the steps so, so long ago. Smiling thinly, he offered a brief nod in greeting to the passing scholasticae students, sending them off with a wave before they rushed up the stairs for the morning's lessons. With the echoing of the bells carrying through the hallowed halls then out into the air beyond the entrance, Martiallais made his way up and through the towering doorway. Despite what he oft heard from allies, both native to Ishgard and not, regarding the Twelve and specifically Halone, even being within the cathedral brought a soothing sense of warmth peace to the knight akin to a hot mug thrust into chilled palms after a long night's patrol. Attempting to move as quietly as an armored knight could, his steps into the sanctuary echoed just under the sound of murmured prayers. He drew a few unwanted looks as he removed sword and shield alike, the sound offering enough offense to warrant an apologetic look in response before terse eyes left his form and returned to business of their own. Exhaling quietly, Martiallais' eyes turned instead to the large, familiar statue that towered above the center of the sanctum. Garbed for war, the depiction of Halone the Fury held a spear in one hand and a shield in the other with the latter instrument drawing the elezen's attention as it often did during his visits. Smiling to himself more than anything, he gradually relaxed, lowering his head as he began to offer his thoughts, prayers, and even frustrations unto the Fury. While he was unable to tell how long his personal meditations had lasted, Martiallais' eyes twitched as he caught the tail end of words sharply spoken, though it wasn't quite close enough for him to understand them clearly. A part of him thought to leave it be, it was likely a matter for the See to deal with after all, and yet he couldn't help but feel drawn to investigate for himself. It certainly would not be the first time the knight had wandered into one situation or another simply to offer his aid. Drawing a breath he rose to his feet and after offering an apology to Halone, gathered his things and began to investigate. The conversation had began, he surmised, not far from where he'd sat quietly though as he followed the faint echo through the halls, he began to feel more and more out of place. He was a knight of Ishgard, and this could surely be outside his jurisdiction if it were an Inquisition matter. Not that even that had deterred him of late, he reminded himself, passing by several closed rooms that likely were used for private study or instruction. Glancing back down the hall, he realized with a frown that this conversation was far from the most obvious place to discuss sensitive matters, the confessional booths. Leaning against the curve of the wall as the voices grew louder, he remained still and simply listened. "Gods above you're a fool! Do you have any idea what your games could cost this family? Could cost me!?" Blinking, Martiallais tried to focus on how familiar the voice sounded when the clap of a palm meeting a face sang out. Inching forward with narrowed eyes, he managed to crouch down and peer through the sliver of light provided by the barely opened doorway. "Father, you have my word, I shall be more careful...going forward." Mouthing the word 'father', the eavesdropping knight lowered his head in thought. "You will be careful or you'll be dead. I refuse to waste my time or authority cleaning up after you and your new acquaintance's cheap thrills. You may have made strides, boy but never forget you are and always will be, a bastard. If I catch wind of you dumping another's property into the Brume, you'll find yourself following soon thereafter. Are we clear?" There were several moments of tense silence before it was broken with a sigh. "Yes, father." Martiallais' bright eyes widened as recognition washed over him. The voices he'd heard were none other than Perceval Boissieu and Inquisitor Vierane. -
Patch 3.2 News and Previews - Feb 23! (Update Feb8)
Martiallais replied to Kage's topic in FFXIV News
Sad but true, this is probably what will happen. =/ Might be time to go off and join the Warriors of Darkness.... -
That moment when you realize that you shield checked (twice!) someone on your team for another event. Talk about first impressions. 8-) #TeamIshgard

Martiallais: Youngest child is blacklisted/dubbed black sheep of the family for choosing family over religion. Then becomes every fantasy knight cliche ever in an attempt to save everyone. Aedan: Yo ho yo ho, it's a pirate's life for me!...except he's only good at axe murdering people and terrible at actual ship duties. Grows a conscious (sort of) and decides to axe murder (mostly) monsters for Maelstrom, money, and hot ladies.

Why does your Character revere a certain Deity? (Or Not)
Martiallais replied to Tara's topic in Fun Prompts
Martiallais is a fairly devout, if unorthodox, worshiper of Halone which is largely due in part to his being Ishgardian. It's who his father and family largely worshiped, of course, but he also has a special place in his heart (ha ha) for Menphina as both his sister and mother revered The Lover alongside The Fury. It makes for, IMO, a character with some interesting views. Ask him about it sometime! Aedan is a bit less openly religious but gives honor to Rhalgr before and after his hunts and battles as his parents were from good ole Mhigo. Growing up in Limsa Lominsa and spending time at sea as (gasp) a pirate means that he also revers Llymlaen. I haven't delved into this (yet!) on my new Hellsguard, Iron Storm, but I think I can narrow his 'patron' down to Nymeia the Spinner, Nald'Thal the Traders, or Althyk the Keeper. -
If no one objects, can we sub Mar in for Ellie in Seven's Rams Horns? I'd hate to bust up the Ladies Night Out, of course.

I am a petty person and someone tried to tell me I was wrong so I must needed to tell them they were wrong about telling me I was wrong. Ser Grinnaux uses the Duskwight model gdi!! THANK YOU! I literally spent all day yesterday at work trying to come up with a lore question so I could respond to that person. >_>

Well really that's cool if he's actually going to answer the rest! And yeah I'm trying to stretch and think of any other questions but I'm at a loss right now. =/

Team RedSteel is probably DF'ing the last spot! We welcome anyone into our (dysfunctional) fold! -
Heya and welcome! If you're wanting to choose your race based on population trends, you'd probably want to lean towards Elezen as there are quite a few Miqo'te around and Au Ra, while not necessarily as populous as they used to be are still around in good number. Plus, as you said, you've already got an Elezen name picked out!

Well. "Martiallais Heuloix is the leader of an organization. Eliane Dufresne is their loyal second-in-command." I'd write it...but it's basically this. (I'll write something in a bit, honest)

For all the folks in need of late, c'mon in here.

Oh man, I'd forgotten about this lovely thread. Will have to pop in here later to join in on the fun!

Seconded from NC! It's not as bad as what some DC and VA friends are getting but work did get cancelled here today and all that. Hearing people trying to drive out in front of my house makes me glad I parked my car in the drive way (in the back) rather than on streetside.
