Devereau Posted December 22, 2014 Share #76 Posted December 22, 2014 Look. I like pretty boys. I'll say this now. Not that I need to. This game cast is lopsided and different in enough ways that there is going to be contention. I think it should really be something we can laugh about before getting too angry about anything. Honestly, I'd be more upset about Cidney's questionable attire and gravity defying chest. We should also remember that someone on the internet decided to make this little photoshop gem. 2 Link to comment
Clover Posted December 22, 2014 Share #77 Posted December 22, 2014 I have to assume at this point you are a troll or seriously delusional. This actually summarizes my thoughts about you *sweatdrops*. In any case, I'm sorry for intruding on your thread. I won't do it again, so let's be in peace now. Link to comment
ArmachiA Posted December 22, 2014 Share #78 Posted December 22, 2014 Honestly, Clover is like one of the nicest people here, there was no need to get snippy at her for trying to explain cultural differences that explain why the boys in FF15 look like "dolls" also can we talk about how hot Gladiolus is? Cuz... hnnngggg Link to comment
Blue Posted December 22, 2014 Share #79 Posted December 22, 2014 Hey, you guys had your hot chicks game with FFX-2. Time for us girls to get our share of the sexy characters cake. And as a shonen-ai fan, I more than welcome male-only groups. Give me bromance and I'll die happy! Link to comment
Aaron Posted December 22, 2014 Share #80 Posted December 22, 2014 Noctis doesn't look THAT Effeminate to me. Sure his face may be hairless and he's got gelled like hair but he looks like a regular Japanese to me. Link to comment

Zyrusticae Posted December 22, 2014 Share #83 Posted December 22, 2014 Are some of you purposely putting up fallacies of red herrings, non sequiturs, and complete irrelevancies, or do you honestly think in such delusional fashions? Apparently everyone else is too nice or nonconfrontational to say it, but I will: You are coming across as an asshole. It IS possible to state your views without coming across as a total dick, you know, and I'd actually be far more inclined to take your posts seriously if you did. You also seem to lack the self-awareness to realize that some of the things we're complaining about DID start with you, so good job there. Do you have anger issues or something? Serious question. I get that impression from your posts. Hardly a bastion of logic and rationality. And speaking of stepping away from stereotypical Japanese design, she has curves Hahaha! Wait... You ARE being sarcastic here, correct? Just gotta make sure... 2 Link to comment

Kage Posted December 22, 2014 Share #85 Posted December 22, 2014 I keep seeing this title and then I keep remembering ALL of the major male Japanese "Pop" Idols out there. Popular. Hip-hop. It's not surprising that they go for that aesthetic. It's fucking normal and even commercialized. Lest we all forget their big Entertainment brands *cough* Johnny's. Idols are fucking Idols and most of all of them have the same aesthetic here. Hell Yoshi-P is pretty much like the aesthetic @_@; SMAP stop. You older mature group you! You too Arashi! Anyways, OP. Stop being such a prick. Link to comment

Zhavi Posted December 22, 2014 Share #87 Posted December 22, 2014 These types of threads amuse me a bit. Many, many people frequently bemoan how shallow and superficial humanity tends to be when it comes to what gets promoted as physical ideals and standards, all the while actively seeking out the same or similar things that match their own standards. I mean, look at the avatars people choose to use to represent their characters that they personally created here on the RPC! Pretty! Beautiful! Handsome! Hnng! Yeah, the cast is pretty. All of them. Some I'd go so far as to call gorgeous. So what? It sells. Not only does it sell really damn well in Japan, they've proven time and time and again that their western audiences will also lap up that aesthetic with a most enthusiastic "may I have another?" So, yup, until fashion standards change for men in Japan, until they decide their audience is older and past all that pop beauty nonsense, until they decide that the FF series is about more than beautiful people beating up other beautiful people for reasons: expect lots, and lots, and lots more beautiful men and women with weird ass costumes. Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be in my bunk. Link to comment
Shoshopu Posted December 22, 2014 Share #88 Posted December 22, 2014 Wow, this thread is still going? Are some of you purposely putting up fallacies of red herrings, non sequiturs, and complete irrelevancies, or do you honestly think in such delusional fashions? Here, let me help: Red herring: something, especially a clue, that is or is intended to be misleading or distracting. I was going to say this isn't applicable, but it actually is: You keep responding to people in a really angry, aggressive tone when nobody is actually addressing you that way. That's pretty misleading if you ain't even trippin, bruh Also misleading is that you keep accusing people of trying to thought police you or silence you or whatever when they're just disagreeing with you and trying to have a discussion with you. If they're putting words in your mouth, you're putting a lot more into theirs, yourself. Non sequitur: a conclusion or statement that does not logically follow from the previous argument or statement. Not applicable. Just because you fail to (or refuse to) understand how an argument is related to your topic doesn't mean it's not. Here's another logical fallacy for your vocabulary. It's one you've been using pretty well! I have to assume at this point you are a troll or seriously delusional. Ad hominem: (of an argument or reaction) directed against a person rather than the position they are maintaining. 3 Link to comment

Kage Posted December 22, 2014 Share #94 Posted December 22, 2014 My point wasn't really that they were East vs West boy bands but really... that's just all around what seems to be the Pop thing in Japan. Their older mature Pop stars dress and have that aesthetic. It's not just J pop idols but their idols in general. Have a gruff Sabin tho. Link to comment

There's been a point floating around this thread that the East and West are inherently different in aesthetics. I just wanted to emphasize how that is not as true as some would like to believe. Faye Posted December 23, 2014 Share #97 Posted December 23, 2014 I like my men pretty. Give me pretty men, or give me death women. EDIT: Seriously, though (not that the initial post wasn't serious). "Too many" pretty boys? That's like saying "too much money" or "too much chocolate." Not a real complaint. Too much chocolate is bad for you and too much money turns you into a rich prick. Better unhealthy than chocolate free, and better a rich prick than a poor one! On a slightly more constructive note in relation to the flak you're taking from this thread--if your point is really just to say the main cast of the game is not varied enough and therefore unrealistic, I feel like the title of this thread doesn't really convey that. A title like "Men or Dolls?" could easily be taken to imply that since they're "pretty boys," they're not "real" men (they're dolls: something fake, abnormally pretty, feminine, child-like etc.) which is a kind of offensive (and inaccurate) statement to make. So if your complaint is really just that the cast is too homogenous being all the niche archetype of pretty boys, the title sort of undermines that. Link to comment
Kismet Posted December 23, 2014 Share #98 Posted December 23, 2014 This is probably going to be a low blow, but... FF15 easily has the most emo, pretty boy, "booj" fucking "wa" cast to date. ...So you mean to tell me that THIS CHARACTER couldn't be described as a "pretty boy" or "emo-looking"? In fact, he kind of just looks like an extra-oriental Noctis. Sasuke-esque, even. Just sayin'. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 1 Link to comment

As well as playing a Miqo'te in game... they're definitely the most "pretty boy" race and if you look at their available hairstyles, certainly the most geared toward an "effeminate" or "emo" aesthetic... 2 Link to comment
