Will RP shift to Ishgard?

So, for Balmung, current RP hub is Ul'dah. Could this conceivably shift to Ishgard come Heavensward? I sure hope not, as I'd rather not contrive a reason for my character in particular to have to be up there. Of course, I'm biased, and know that other RPers have to do the same thing for Ul'dah..."but it's the trade capital of Eorzea with plenty of visitors!".

I caught a glimpse of further cities today within Isghard and honestly I'm REALLY - excited for some RP to start opening up there. With that said however I really hope that people don't start to abandon Ul'dah en-mass, while all my characters could conceivably move there for one reason or another Ul'dah has grown on me immensely and I'd hate to leave it.

Some people will role-play there, some people won't. I do hope more role-players strive to bring more role-play out into the game world though. A lot of it seems very limited to Ul'dah or people's personal houses/free company estates.

As for me? I'm not too sure. My character doesn't really have much reason to go to Ishgard at the moment though he may be tempted to sate his curiosity depending on how things go with the ongoing story.

I personally bet

it will only become the new Mor Dhona

and Mor Dhona will have more rp because of it

I doubt it, they will probably still keep all the token gear and stuff in Mor Dhona since they stated RT will continue to grow even after the expansion, and the Scions are still based out of it so all questlines will still start in RT in future content.

Ishgard is a war torn nation however, and from what they have shown it looks battered and in a tattered state, which will likely come from the Battle for Ishgard event where I'm willing to bet the Dragons break through and tear shit up before we fend them off until 3.0. With all of this in mind, no... I don't think it will become the new RP hub. Ul'dah has most of what people need/want from an RP hub, it's easily accessible by anyone who is at most lvl 15 and has unlocked the Airships, it has a bar/inn, plenty of little areas around it that can be used for RP outside of the city, and it's right in between Gridania and Limsa.

We can assume that Ishgard being in a state of perpetual war will not have any cozy little hang out spots, it probably won't even really act like the previous cities since it has no adventurer's guild.

As mentioned above, it's war torn, and more or less completely unknown, so the majority of folk moving there for casual RP and socialising like the Quicksand wouldn't make a lot of sense. Perhaps in the future if it becomes a safe area and starts to rebuild. It will become the new hub for end game as well.

It would be great if RP does become more spread out though. There are so many nice locations, it's a shame the majority is currently stuck in the same place or out of the way in private housing. :P

A common enough question that me and the people of the Ishgard LS have talked about as of late.

Really speaking, those who are dedicated to their character rolls and is said characters are from Ishgard will definitely get locked into Ishgard till the end of the 3.0 line probably because due to recent MSQ events, all the knights and people Ishgard can get their hands on are being called back to defend Ishgard.

With that said, with all the new lore coming out and a new race, the RP landscape will shift a fair bit over to ishgard. Not to mention Astroligians and Dark Knights ahoy.

I cant give an exact estimate or numbers to show how big this shift will be but my guess it will be fairly big. That at least the Quicksand will clear out a bit and be less lagy as a result.

I dunno. Unless lowbies can reach Ishgard easily then it definitely won't steal king rp spot from.Ul'dah. Could turn into a hotspot though....unless it becomes a hang out spot for trade and pve, like Mor China currently is.

That's more or less my feelings on it. It'll probably see a lot of folks around it if there's a lot of quests and other progression-y stuff there like Mor Dhona, but Ul'dah is just too centrally located and easy for folks to get to comparatively to be unseated as the RP locale of choice.

Would say it depends on how the story is going to shift to Ishgard. As well how easy low levels can access it. But I'd imagine the Ishgardian lot and adventurers will mostly be there. Civilian characters, unless from Ishgard, will stick about in their 'main' cities in any case.

Time shall tell! But I will be there mostly myself on my elezen.

Ul'dah is safe. RPers will never, ever abandon a town that lets them dress in so little and get away with it due to the climate.

Seriously, the majority of characters lounging on the benches in Ul'dah are going to have some really interesting tan lines.

We more likely than not will see a brief surge of roleplay go out into Ishgard before people decide that it's too hard to go out there on alts and too extremely full of people running all of the new content to RP there comfortably. Then everyone will go back to Ul'dah, Limsa, and the residential districts.

Can't imagine a total shift there. Too many players have alts that they never level and just stick around Ul'dah because they don't actually progress on them (or need to in some cases) Most of what I see is new characters being rolled and just left in the Sands.

Bar/Tavern RP is easier and what a lot of people are generally comfortable with, it's a lot harder to get out to farther places in this game without actually leveling a little.

Like what others said, it may be popular with certain circles, but not so much with the masses I don't think.

I made Erik the way I did (dad from Ala Mhigo, mom from Ishgard) a long time ago so that he would have connections to various parts of the landmass, because it was obvious to everyone we will one day expand in this game to those areas first and I didn't want to have to make an excuses to go off and rp in those places. I know several people from beta and 1.0 who did the same thing for the same reasons. I will stay central to Thanalan for the foreseeable future, but will be exploring Erik's past and religious feelings more in Ishgard.

Now if we could just get a housing district in Mor Dhona....

I don't see this happening, at least not anytime soon. It's not a city state so it doesn't have the economic backing to support residential wards, all of the current construction is pretty much funded by Rowena and the Adventurer's Guild. Not only that, but all three of the current residential areas are by far bigger than RT is as a whole. What they could do however would be add apartments basically that would act like the Private Chambers (or Mog Houses), where instead of having an entire area dedicated to housing just let people buy an apartment the same size as private chambers but without the need for a FC house.
