[SPOILERS not hidden in SPOILERS] 2.55 Before the Fall Part 2
K'nahli replied to Kage's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Not to say it's impossible or anything but I certainly didn't get such an impression from that meeting(though even if I had, I could well believe the potential for it to be a total ploy after yesterday's events). -
Current state of Ul'dah, post 2.55 (Spoilers obviously)
K'nahli replied to Seriphyn's topic in RP Discussion
Yes, I wanted to hear what he said but no-one has so far posted his dialogue. I might just log on and see for myself because he's one of people I am more curious about. -

[SPOILERS not hidden in SPOILERS] 2.55 Before the Fall Part 2
K'nahli replied to Kage's topic in FFXIV Discussion
I wasn't suggesting that simply foreseeing something would take away any attachment or liking you develop for said character but I would have imagined that the shock factor was pivotal to the overall effect that the experience has on you. Not anticipating something only for it to be thrown in your face and/or being wary of something happening, yet hoping against hope that it doesn't - only to be denied - adds to the feeling and experience of tension. If you know something will happen beforehand, then you have time to harden at least slightly to it(unless it's very unsettling) before actually bearing witness to it and in a sense I would argue that removing most of the shock factor also subtracts from the emotional rollercoaster it would otherwise take you on. *with that, goes to sleep and hopes for a happier, sunny day come morning* -

I'm glad I have an excuse to ask this now actually since I've seen it elsewhere today as well and the idea just absolutely boggles me, especially since you're certainly far from alone in this, but why on earth would you look up spoilers to a story if you're both interested in it and intend on experiencing it yourself? -
The recent patch has made me seriously need a hug right now and my friend has seemingly disappeared for the night when I really wanted to speak to her, haha ; *feels stupid and silly*

[SPOILERS not hidden in SPOILERS] 2.55 Before the Fall Part 2
K'nahli replied to Kage's topic in FFXIV Discussion
After my friend went for dinner(not long after my initial post), I just shut everything down, turned on some music and napped for a couple of hours. Honestly I don't feel that much better which is a bit surprising ; I honestly don't know if I should be happy or sad that I managed to be this affected by the progression of the plot because, as amazing as it is that it has had such an unprecedented impact on me, I can't say that I am happy to have this feeling. It's incredibly difficult to explain. FFXIV is the only game I play and is my home, yet right now I feel as though I have been stripped of everything and that just makes me feel as though I am completely lost as to what to do the moment. I don't feel like playing the game, even less with continuing to level up my tia who has just begun the Shiva arc(good luck to me re-watching any cutscenes with Ilberd and such in them again...). But then again, what the hell else am I going to do with my spare time? This game is where my heart is. Yeeegh.... I must sound ridiculously over-the-top with, what I can only assume comes off as very melodramatic, but I honestly feel pretty depressed about this whole thing right now (_ _) ;;;;;;; Edit: I was crushed by the Ilberd thing too. I did not see it coming. -

I wasted what little resolve I had to discuss this with Clover, so to keep it brief and to the point; this entire arc broke me. I have never been so overcome with such a wide range of emotions from anything of it's kind - and for that, I suppose it is only right to give credit where credit is due. SE did a great job... even if it literally destroyed me in the process. (Though I will say this.... for f*ck's sake, I mean, Laurentius? Really? Why in the name of the twelve would you take his word for it given what you had known so far? My God...) -
Oh yeah, totally. I've never been that huge of a fan of Tanaka, though she's good. I mean, she definitely fits the character, but there are a lot of other VA who could do Kan-E-Senna just as well. I think in terms of skill and role archetype she matches well, but I agree she was picked probably because she's famous lol. Actually, now that I think about it, I forgot she was even in the game. Shows how much I care about the Adders. I really admired your replies and ability to coherently convey many of my own personal impressions on the matter much better than I could have myself.... ....but then I read this.... Petitioning to have you removed from the forum outright and asap.

NO-ONE BLAME WARREN.

Sorry for the off-topic here, but yeah... I almost thought you had just 180'd on the idea of roleplaying and were about to preach about it. That or that there are hardly any to be seen around(which is just silly of course).

This is precisely what I was talking about. I don't care if the english is the "original" despite my leniency to doubt that much; all it does is reverse my argument in the other direction while maintaining the same point. I will use japanese at the end of the day because whether or not it is simply, terrible voice acting(and I cannot tell the difference), I still find it far more aesthetically pleasing and that could be found equally true to any other language out there for all I know. However, it all comes back to me wanting the dialogue, ALL dialogue in EVERY language to be as similar as possible so that I am not seeing and hearing a totally different persona from what was intended. And thank you for that example with Haurchefan, Edda. It illuminated the point I was trying to make much better than the simple and random ones I had presented. Absolutely 100% this. Just because I find japanese to be a pleasing language to listen to, it doesn't mean that I would ever consider watching a western production with japanese dubs even if the lip-synching was, somehow, miraculously perfect in spite of the fact. Holy crap, I remember getting very confused in the recent MSQ updates when I had on Japanese voices and Haurchefant was being his eccentric self. It was so different from what I knew of him that I thought he was being mind-controlled or had his personality altered. Did a little searching around and turns out... he was always like that in the Japanese version and they just cut that out for the English one (and also apparently his attraction to the player character as well?). It's a pretty jarring difference and I'm disappointed they did it for the sake of apparently keeping Coerthas' story more serious. I'd hope they won't keep doing it but I'm sure Heavensward will be much the same. This completely surprised me too. The english subtitles suggested that he was very level-headed and considerate in the initial MSQ but then we get that voiced cutscene and his character completely blows that notion out of the water. PLUS, the english dialogue with that episode seemingly caught up with his personality and reflected his more eccentric self this time around. I mean what? ;; I don't want your personal adaptions of an intended character please, whether or not that adaption be western or eastern. I wish it were, haha. Though once the original personalities or sentences get replaced arbitrarily then I get a bit annoyed. A friend of mine who understands a fair amount of japanese once pointed out to me that Papalymo once said something insulting(in his usual way) to Yda during a cutscene but the english dialogue reflected nothing of the sort. I can't remember what it was exactly, perhaps he was just adding to her point instead while completely taking out the snide side of it(don't quote me on that, but I recall it being quite a bit different).
-
I can't say that I quite understand that notion. A lot of the changes seem to be totally unnecessary and random and they'd be no less clearer had they been literally translated. Things like this only change the way characters are portrayed and received by the audience. I know that some changes are, of course required, especially for lesser NPCs that tend toward accents, regional and archaic forms of english; though with exception to Hydaelyn and Urianger, I can't think of a single, important and voiced NPC whom has such traits - and that only lends to believe that their character and personality are being altered to a degree, even if only minutely. And frankly, I can't say that I like that. I want to hear and read the character as was intended by the creators, not a variation of that just because it somehow wasn't clear enough that someone was annoyed to the point of being rendered speechless that they had to go and give him a whole other line of dialogue.
-
Oh I certainly wouldn't call it a dub either. When I mentioned that I didn't mean to refer to FF's other languages as such, haha. I was worried it might sound like that actually, sorry! Grrrr....! This annoys me so much! There's not much I can recognise but reading about the Keeper of the lake thing annoyed me immensely. As someone mentioned, localization is expertly done but I don't understand why they change things around unnecessarily. Like, I just got out of a cutscene with my new character and it goes like this:

So we all have our own preferences when it comes to the language we use when dealing with the game. Unfortunately I can't have multiple polls per thread so I'll be relying on replies to find out the other details I am curious about; so please do remember to reply! First off, of course, which language do you use and why? Also, assuming it's not your native language, then do you have any difficulty understanding it and therefore rely on reading the dialogue? And finally, given that there are a number of players who use Japanese while not being able to speak the language; I am curious if there are any out there who chose that option while not being a fan of Japanese works, such as anime - as seems to be the case with many peoples' reasoning. For me, when I was handed over control of my character during the Gridanian tutorial, the very first thing I did was play with the settings and when I stumbled across the different audio options, I immediately changed it to Japanese. Now, I am part of the group whom are influenced by having watched anime in the past(hardly ever these days) but while that garnered my interest in listening to the language as opposed to dubs in a general sense, I feel that my interest in it is completely irrelevant to the fact. Certain games like FFXIV just seem to work only with Japanese for me. I don't know if it's because english voice actors are so much poorer in quality outside of mainstream titles or anything else but it simply never works and just makes me cringe pretty seriously. Everyone tends to sound old with very unfitting voices and/or just don't come off as remotely believable for the little I have heard from trailers and the like. I haven't heard german or french languages to be fair but I might give them a try today out of curiosity and to see how much, if any, comes down to the fact I can't pick up on poorer quality acting from a language I cannot understand. (Also, I know that some people simply don't feel comfortable listening to a language that they can't understand so I can comprehend that much to an extent(although not entirely since you're forced to read over the dialogue anyways to know when to click on!)) And as a final note, please mind your replies and remember that everyone posting has their own opinions. Let's not get worked up over something so trivial! Anyways, thank you for reading and, hopefully, participating ^^

Around four or five posts were outright deleted by me as they either had absolutely no context remaining or because they were deemed completely unnecessary after the split. With that said, only short posts were removed so that no-one's time or thoughts were exactly wasted. Regardless of that fact, deletion rarely, if ever, comes about as a result of some form of censorship. Non-constructive posts, particularly those laced with negative or passive-aggressive undertones, are not prioritised very highly when it comes to determining which posts are worth keeping. Preventing future conflict is just as important to me as dealing with existing examples. If I have removed any particular message which you would argue was topic-worthy then I do sincerely apologise, but as Freelance(in part) mentioned, that is where PMs serve a purpose. Sarcastically commenting in a topic that was just cleaned, on the other hand, is not the answer. Not to specifically address Edda with this, as I mean this post generally. Though should anyone have any concerns or disagreements then please do use PMs. Communication solves most misunderstandings, but not within topics themselves.

The Summit of Free Companies (Location Set)
K'nahli replied to Erik Mynhier's topic in Chronicled Events
At the request of the thread's poster, a topic addressing possible issues with this event and others of it's kind has been created here to avoid clutter. Please only continue to use this topic if you are confirming your attendance or have a direct question(s) in relation to certain aspects of this event. -
All previous posts were extracted from an events thread: The Summit of Free Companies and as such, some may lack sufficient context. Replies from this point on needn't directly reference that specific event if they pertain to the topic of complications arising from multiple Free Companies interacting on a large scale.

Secret things your character does when no one is around

Andre has written letters with the intention of sending them to his father, but every time he tries he just ends up crumpling it up and throwing it away again in a moment of self-loathing. -
I'm so lazy.... I just want to stop *laughs* ;;;;; But I'll try to keep going before it becomes another neglected task. Edit: *Keels over and dies*

Basing my reply off of nothing but gut instinct: That sounds like the dumbest rumor. I thought it was ridiculous but people kept commenting on it so now I am paranoid. -
Heavensward Digital Edition -20% (Official retailer)
K'nahli replied to Ilwe'ran's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Do you need CE of the original game to use CE of Heavensward? I was told that you did... -
Going to create scenes through screenshots to serve as a sort of prequel for my character's introduction to the RP. Granted I was already pretty lazy with this first one with only four screen but bah!! I might come back and add to them later.
