Square Enix's attention to detail and proof to their precision
K'nahli replied to Seriphyn's topic in FFXIV Discussion
(I didn't figure that this related directly to RP moreso than it did FF in general, so I hope this forum is okay ^^) As for your observations, while that would seem like they were not being too heedless with their previously declared lore, these AF2 "replicas" are only different in appearance. I don't see why a replica of the AF1 couldn't be made to be honest, haha. Though your point about the sword certainly stands to an extent. Though again... I still doubt anyone wanting to honour the First Paladins' memory would use such cheap materials and, instead, would make the blade from some form of crystal? Anything fancy and nice to look at. Albeit maybe I am overanalysing! -
What If Your Character's Backstory Didn't Happen?
K'nahli replied to Sounsyy's topic in Character Workshop
This is an absolutely amazing question to be asking. You have me in serious awe with trying to imagine the cases for my own characters. I can't think out mine properly right now but I will soon, hopefully. -
Clover and I both have OOC ones but I honestly wouldn't in good conscience recommend anyone to follow mine ww But Clover makes very beautiful edits. Clover Blake

Yeeey! I'm very happy with the results ^^ Third time's the charm(and just as well, or I'd have had to race a LOT more to attempt even for a Grade 1). Premature results from Bentbranch Final Results I didn't get Choco Steal II, but I did get to avoid a pink chocobo! haha >w< As a side note, can I ask anyone who may purchase Grade 1 and/or Grade 2 permissions to place screenshot it and post the results here(both the initial slip details and premature Bentbranch results)? It would help out a lot!
-
Ahh, I see. Thank you! I doubt I will have the same luck as you with Grade 3 but I will mimic your decision then. Edit: Attempt #1 Attempt #2 Ahahah.... haha....hah ;;;;;
-
Apologies for the bump! I removed my previous post because I realised I had made a mistake but I actually have another question now ;;; Why would you use a Grade 3 or even Grade 2 with your initial chocobo when a Grade 1 would suffice? Does it leave potential for better stats at the risk of being worse? And if so, how did you know that Grade 3 was a reasonable choice(statistically)?
-
Interesting concepts so far! I hope they work out better than you could have hoped for them ^^ In any case, welcome to the forums and community as a whole! if you have any questions then please do not hesitate to ask them either here or create a topic regarding it if needs be ~

Thank you very much! Though I just realised that it wants my chocobo to RANK 40 and not RATING 40, haha. I still have 10 levels to go it seems!

I'd say that we need to organise a racing tournament on the RPC (OOC or IC!) but having to put up with 8 players in every match isn't as fun, even with "dummy racers" who just hold back while the real competitors go for it.

I'd say here but I really got into Fallout 3. I couldn't stand bad decisions and I refused to get the Dogmeat "Puppies!" perk because it implied that any "new" Dogmeat was a reincarnation and therefore not the real Dogmeat. ...so I stuck to risking many hours of progress when out travelling through the wastes whenever Dogmeat vanished and had the potential of later incurring the sudden: "Dogmeat has died" message ;;;; But that's an RPG so it won't count?

Just to be clear on my point, I'm not exactly against the glamouring of one's appearance, but rather the ability for just about anyone to do it easily and efficiently. You say that there are methods of dispelling these things and that's true, but unless you're not a convincing actor and dealing with someone who knows the real person very well, then Garleans in particular could abuse this to high heaven and make a lot more progress than they do by simply dressing up and playing as regular soldiers(in which their ranks have to be actually earned too).... and even then there would always be a massive sense of mistrust among your own comrades. Is Steve having a bad day and perhaps acting moody? Better smack him with a alchemical dispeller to make sure he's not someone pretending to be him. ^Things like that are basically where most of my reluctance comes from. 2.3-2.4(I think) MSQ Spoiler Also, as a side note to anyone who perhaps plays characters or knows characters who roleplay anything akin to this concept, please keep in mind that everyone thusfar has merely been sharing their personal opinions(myself included of course)! These kinds of things can sometimes sound like the concept is being condemned in discussions like these but that is not anyone's intent I'm sure. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Edit: Val just.... basically said what I meant in two lines ;;; *incompetent*

They have a method to dispel them sure, but realistically it couldn't possibly be so easy once you consider all the possibilities. Someone could easily glamour themselves as a high-ranking officer and stab Raubahn or anyone else in the back with no trouble whatsoever. Likewise, someone could pose as a wealthy patron or a member of the syndicate and intercept due payments/shipments - to name just a couple.

I have no information that can help so this is just my opinion really! I make an exception for the elezen and sylphs since they have special powers, naturally, but every other example of this has been in what can be described as "fluff" quests to be honest(as far as I can remember) and honestly I prefer to imagine that such a thing isn't actually very feasible - otherwise it would pose a VERY, real threat to not just military and organisations and influential, diplomatic leaders, but to the general populace too. So while I don't know about any lore behind it, I'm personally of the opinion that it should be highly restrictive to how, where and how long it can be used or at least come with some serious repercussions. Having said that, I'm one of those people who believe that just because something is in the game, it doesn't make it canon.

Original Post: I'll occasionally update this post with some relevant and shorthand information but please refer to the post below for a more thorough explanation of the general process. Racing names can be used over and over - In order to increase your Pedigree level, you must have your chocobo mate with a chocobo of the same pedigree or higher. High pedigree coverings cost more MGP and are most likely best avoided at the early stages. - When purchasing one-time covering permission slips from GS, you will not be able to preview the stats of your chocobo's would-be counterpart. You can only observe them after your purchase. Examples can be found below but negative and positive outcomes are both possible. In light of this, do not retire your chocobo before purchasing a covering permission slip that you are satisfied with. - When you appear for the adoption of your fledgling six or more hours following handing your retired chocobo over, you will be offered premature results from Bentbranch. These are not the true results, though the final stats will be determined by either the male or female side for each stat displayed on this slip. For instance, if on the slip it shows four stars for the male side and two for female for the acceleration stat, then you could potentially get either four stars or two in your final result. Alternatively, if you do not like your results. You can purchase another covering slip and reattempt the breeding. Keep in mind, however, that this will involve another stat gamble first at Gold Saucer and then again with the results, in addition to the 6+ hour waiting period. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Chocobo Covering References ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Grade 3(as purchased): Grade 3(Bentbranch Results):

The most common explanation I see in other forums whenever this is brought up is "Well, if I have to stare at an avatar's ass for 6 hours every night, I might as well make it an attractive one." I hate when people say that! I can never take it seriously, haha. Also, there are slightly more hyur than there are miqo'te according to the statistics if I recall correctly, so maybe this "there are far more miqo'te" thing is a Quicksand/RP'ing thing, though even that would be disappointing in some ways.

I admit that these things make me wary too but I'm not very knowledgeable in this area so I won't remove the link - yet at least. So please be mindful to use such things at your own risk. -
That's nice ^^ I hope you didn't make a loss in the end.

That would be awesome, but keep in mind I don't have much in the way of repaying you Who said anything about repaying me? A fellow RPCer crafted me a full set of HQ iron armor back when I was starting out (which I still have, thanks Dev!). So, the least I can do is pay that forward. If I ask you for anything, it'd most likely only be to grab me a material or two (like an Aldgoat Horn or something, some of the recipes have oddball materials) if I'm missing them to make you your gear. Gegenji beat me to it but if you are in any rush then I can be online now and get your gear back for you ^^ Sorry to hear about that though. Not sure if I ever ever done it myself, thankfully *laughs*

Frankly it's not as important to me as dyeing my regular chocobo - if you can call that important - but it's still something I'd like to try, even if the colour I have in mind was something I rashly decided upon. I'd LIKE to think that they have made the process easier though somehow I doubt that. Still... even if it involves the same process, I'll probably go for it... even knowing this may only be a phase that wears off soon enough.

balmung Gauging interest on a Gridania themed LS
K'nahli replied to Magellan's topic in Chronicled Connections
Oh nonono, that was just my opinion on it personally. Actually, having re-read my response I think it could have easily come off badly but that wasn't my intention at all. I'm sorry if you got that impression! IC or OOC works all the same. As you said, it can be IC and still used as on an OOC level for others present. Whatever you and the majority prefer is best ^^ And yes, I just wanted to emphasise how fluffy my fluff will be(if any fluff) since I am a little shy about RP'ing in-game. So long as my possible and relative lack of interaction doesn't bother anyone then I'll happily join. Thank you again for organising this. Even if I don't get much use out of it myself, I'll look forward to seeing how much it inspires RP growth in both Gridania and the Shroud. (Also, Clover Blake would be interested in joining too, whenever you get around to sending out invites.) -
... Brave Biscuit is an adorable racing chocobo name. ;w; Thank you! Now if only I could find out how to actually dye them... (Or were all of the dyed birds actually NPC racers? Does anyone know?)

Being that I wanted to accompany Clover's character on my hyur, I didn't get to first experience Gold Saucer with my main, so Andre is the only one with a racing chocobo so far. I will likely get one for K'nahli but I might not end up levelling it since Andre's is already rank 16 last time I checked.
