balmung Bubbly Seeker Miqo'te LF Connections!
Val replied to voidVirago's topic in Chronicled Connections
Heya! I'd be happy to meet up and RP sometime! I have a large group of characters to choose from, some of which are listed in my signature (man, I should really get to work on those wikis). I'm not actually interested in romantic RP/ERP, as all of my characters are partnered with another, so you don't have to worry about any of that from me =D -

"Val Nunh do you kiss your Mom with that mouth?! Santa puts kids on the Naughty List for cursing, and frankly you've got a mouth like a Sailor! Naughty List for you." Fuck, he's on to me.

Roleplayer Uncertainty/Insecurity Theater
Val replied to Warren Castille's topic in Character Workshop
Val: I'm afraid he comes off as incredibly annoying or tries too hard to be funny/offensive, or that people won't or don't want to be around him because of that. I also get afraid that people get tired of him referencing his woman all the time. He doesn't do it to try to flaunt it around or because he feels he has to, he's just that devoted and I feel like it comes off wrong a lot of the time. Cyrus: I'm afraid he's incredibly boring and one-dimensional. I've tried to breathe some life into him through various events and tragedies, so I hope that helps a bit, but I just don't know what to do with him. The last relationship he was in, while it was incredibly fun, didn't give the two a lot to do as they were both very goody-goody and didn't have a lot happen to them because of it. Melfice: He was always meant to be my wild card to help make up for weird and crazy ideas that other people have, but that turned into me being afraid to RP him in public because of the various things he helps people with. I don't want it to seem like too much, and I don't want him to come off as a swiss army knife of solutions. He can't help people with physical combat, and he can't help people with most things that aren't related to aether, but when it comes to that he's incredibly knowledgeable. This has meant some lore bending, and I'm not certain people would find it very friendly outside of the circle I RP him in. Vallois: He's a biproduct of Melfice and, in that respect, I think I'm worried people will just think he's weird/strange. He also doesn't have much of a personality (on purpose) and he's very off-putting, which I know will turn some people off immediately. Vincent/Turks: Already helping out with an FC, I don't really have the time to run the organization myself. I was supposed to have two/three other people helping me out with it, but they all quit the game or we parted ways before Heavensward released and we had a good chance to bring it out into the opening--which left me solely to focus on it. Between other RP, RL, and my admittedly, rapidly dwindling interest in the game, I fear I've let the people down that had an interest in it as I can't and couldn't be there 100% of the time or try to make it an active organization. I had hoped that, should the community like the idea enough, people pick it up and do some RP with it and it become a group all in its own right. Unfortunately, not many people messaged me about it. Myself: I'm afraid my writing is awful and stale. I find myself using the same words, the same descriptions, the same way of going about things time and time again on the various characters. I want to improve, but I don't really have the time to sit and just enjoy a book or work on it like I used to. Part of it may come with me just finding the game itself uninteresting now, but I'm not certain how to get better from where I currently stand. I hope to work on it, both to improve the experience of my partner and those around me. Also, to not feel like my writing is terrible =) -
This is pretty much it, to be entirely honest. Just playing the beta I saw way more boobs and vag than I ever cared to, and I imagine it has the same sort of appeal that got people in TERA involved with it. Needless to say, I expect it to go the same route. RP will be okay, but the overall shallow exterior to action combat you can find in almost any console/non-MMO game will make people bored with it. All the good people will leave and you'll be left with an absolute travesty of an MMO and RP community, where only that sort of "role-play" will be all you find.

balmung Dark Knight w/o life skills seeking mentor/master
Val replied to Mi Ming's topic in Chronicled Connections
We'll see how it goes =D My main, Val, is also pretty good at picking people up, mostly because he's very relaxed and cheerful--though he'd probably be an absolutely awful role model. Faye always has to fight and reel him in, herself Either way, I'm looking forward to it! Feel free to send me a message in game sometime and we'll try to set something up! -
Heya and welcome to Balmung!

balmung Dark Knight w/o life skills seeking mentor/master
Val replied to Mi Ming's topic in Chronicled Connections
Heya Claire! I don't have anyone to mentor her, and definitely not someone that can help with combat, but I do have a dark knight-esque character that's a bit down on his luck and in need of companions/friends. He's generally pretty open/worldly and may be able to inadvertently help her out as well =) -
This is a pretty great idea Good luck!

Another recent report said each installment will be "the equivalent to a full game" and have its own story. So I imagine they're doing it in sections. Like.. having Midgar as one part and so on. My concern is not only that the continuity/pacing will be ruined, but if they're already saying "each will be a full game" then I'm almost expecting a 60 price tag per entry. It's the kind of shit SE does.
-
From an article I saw, they're remaking the full game--just pieces at a time because making it all at once and releasing it would be far too big for systems to handle as one complete thing rather than small increments. The article explains it a lot better in full detail: http://www.novacrystallis.com/2015/12/kitase-and-nomura-explain-why-final-fantasy-vii-remake-is-a-multi-part-series/

Looking for ways to slow down plots.
Val replied to -no longer matters-'s topic in Character Workshop
Unfortunately, people will do how they want and, if they know the inevitable conclusion/what's going on, will often times find "exactly what's needed" and so-on to move the plot to the next step. This doesn't necessarily mean anything bad for the players; they're just doing what feels right. Some of course also feel that the plot is ready to move on or whatever, and outside of saying "Hey I'd really like to RP this out," they won't really understand. I don't think there's anything wrong with taking that approach. Communication is required to make any plot work, and I often ask my partner if she'd like to RP something out or handwave it and say that it happened. Sometimes we're in the mood to RP out a mundane conversation that brings unexpected results, and others we're just ready for the plot to move forward. As I said, I don't really see anything wrong with that particular route. However, if you just want to try being more organic about it and it's a plot you yourself are running, I'd suggest only presenting as much evidence as is needed to move the plot along. Breadcrumbs, if you will. This will dynamically shift the group from finding (or OOC knowing) the whole truth and keep them looking for other pieces of the puzzle. If it's not a plot you're running, unfortunately there isn't much that can be done aside from still trying t present breadcrumbs and moving on. I'm sure others may have more ideas/ways to subvert people suddenly moving to the end of the plot, but aside from one you're running, sadly I feel that it's in the hands of the person running it. And again, don't be afraid to communicate. It's one of the major keys of good plot development and roleplay. Even if you feel you're breaking character, it's arguably one of the necessities to getting your thoughts and ideas across. Hope this helps, and good luck! -
Haha sometimes! There's a few of us still around. Sadly a lot of us have been busy with RL and all that, but I could probably swing it happening sometime :v

We're still around! If anyone wants any mob/underground/Gold Saucer RP, let us know We're here to help facilitate however we can!

I think if you did this, you may have to network a bit with other FCs and crafters. That way it gives the feeling of trading/interacting with people outside of your home/town. Granted you'll have a long, uphill battle as that would require a house of your own and those things aren't very cheap or even readily available. Either way, it's a novel idea and I wish you luck
