It used to bother me when I saw the F bomb dropped ICly. I tend to base vocabularies as much as possible around those I see the NPCs use, and that certainly isn't a word they use. But, then again, the game isn't rated for such language, so it's possible that Eorzeans drop the F bomb just like anyone else. After awhile I just got used to it. Aysun may even use it from time to time. But excessively? If you can't say something IC to them and you tried talking to them OOCly about it, /blist may be the way to go.

I've always wondered what the reaction would be if someone decided to discriminate OOCly against Miqo'te players joining their LS. It's always been something I've heard joked about but not done, because I think there are most definitely quality characters and RPers that would be excluded. What an interesting topic for discussion this could be. I won't clog your thread with it though! Knowing a new member who joined you guys recently is a Miqo'te, she must have just snuck in before you decided to say no more, haha. Good luck!

Time marches on for me and many other RPers. There is an event in game called Heavensturn around New Years that signals a new year in Eorzea too. Game timelines never match up perfectly with storyline, but from what I've been seeing most people do this: 2.0/ARR launched in August. That was Year 5 of the 7th Umbral Era. Five years since the Calamity. Some RPers referenced it as 1577 due to the 5 year passage of time, though technically since it was a new Era we should have started counting again. Spoiler alert, as John said, the end of the 2.0 storyline ushered in the 7th Astral Era, so we should start counting over again. But damn that's confusing. There's the problem of not everyone in the community acknowledging the events of the storyline as occurring until x time. Or not at all! So some people may be still playing as it is still the 7th Umbral Era, and some might not. And of course, time marches on. Another year has come now (hello 2014!), so now it has been 6 years since the Calamity, and it is "1578" in 6th Umbral years. What I'm saying is.. don't get too hung up on your Eras and years. It's not going to agree with SE's timeline, and it's going to vary from RPer to RPer, and it is maddening. I try to avoid it myself and just go along with the "now its been 6 years since the Calamity" thing.

There have been a couple podcasts done by members of the RPC back in the 1.0 days, even a youtube series, they all just kind of died out after awhile!

Been a few times recently to spectate and always enjoy watching. -
That's why it came with the same patch that the glamour system did~

The best IC bards don't use emote/macros for their songs, in my opinion. To be honest, when I see that, I'm more likely to just ignore them as background noise. It's impossible to actually INTERACT with someone who is simply using a macro of a song to 'be a bard.' You should wander around the tavern, engage people, come up with things on the fly (or google them on the fly, whatever). Every performance should be different. Some helpful hints: If you use songs from OOC/IRL, please "Eorzea-fy" them. Don't sing about other game universes using names/places that don't exist. Don't sing about IRL things/places. Modify it to suit the environment you're in. It's not that hard. Use /wait commands between lines so you don't spam everyone out if you insist on using macros for your song emotes.

"A picture is worth a thousand words." My words in response to those pictures are: 'wtf is that,' 'augh so toony' and 'icky game-breaker'! It's interesting to see everyone's varying preferences around here.

Here are some actual in-game key items I've come across related to this. Milkroot The thick white sap extracted from this ochu root has the power to grant its user wondrously terrible visions. Dreamtoad Ooze A slippery substance secreted by a dreamtoad. Known to enhance the hallucinatory effects of milkroot. Dreamweed A prohibited substance. Merely knowing of its existence is hazardous to one's health. "Peculiar Herb" <- WHAT IS IT CALLED, SE?! A common weed rumored to have relaxing properties when either ingested or smoked.

Nice! The skin in your digital paintings is quite amazing. O_o

Personal Profile Character Name: Aysun Demiir Gender: Female Race: Miqo'te | Seeker of the Sun Domestic Profile Civil Status: Current Resident, Citizen by birth Place of Residence: Limsa Lominsa Lower Decks Occupation: Independent fisher Free Company: Crystalline Social Profile Aysun has a rather "boring" life at the moment and spends her days fishing in various places in La Noscea. She ferries over to Vesper Bay and sells her catch to a merchant stall in Ul'dah. Often this is when she frequents the Quicksand if she decides to, or other places in Thanalan, before returning via ferry to Limsa. She and Fenix keep a small apartment in Limsa Lominsa, the Lower Decks region. Her half-brother K'aworu lives with them as well. She is a citizen, being born within the city limits, but lived at sea until she was 17. Thus she is familiar with numerous ports along the coasts of Vylbrand and Aldenard and the outlying islands, but has not lived in the city proper for very long. The itch for "adventure" is really bad right now. Meta Profile I do best with organic RP, that is, meeting people by chance rather than setting up encounters (those tend to give me stage-fright/performance anxiety, believe it or not). So, the best way to engage me with RP is to actually just do it. Approach ICly, or simply send me an OOC tell asking if I can meet somewhere! I'm pretty much on everyday in the evenings EST, and try to be IC often. I really like IC linkpearl chatter and will likely pipe in on the linkshell frequently when conversation arises!

Tiergan Whores Self For Fun And Profit (Limited Commissions)
Aysun replied to Tiergan's topic in Artisan House
Dyamn. Do like. -
I'll try to be there more often! Aysun lives in Limsa.. but doesn't often spend time there because.. well, the RP was in Ul'dah, and she goes there everyday! Hope to see some folks soon.

Personally know people who have done that and it is well-accepted and much prefer to dimensional travel! Just adapt him to this setting!

I found this a very interesting read, which surprises me because I usually cringe when I see Miqo'te topics around here. >>; Something I take away from this? SE is keeping to their own lore. Kudos. Seekers of the Sun are to be found on Vylbrand, where they are "accepted into everyday life" and so the vast majority of them are. We have one functional tribe shown in game. The Seekers of La Noscea don't appear to live tribally like those in the Sagolii do. Cool beans. So yea, very interesting stuff here, even if you couldn't really draw any of the conclusions you wanted from it!

My character, luckily, has reason to be in Ul'dah regularly, as well as Limsa Lominsa. Limsa is my favorite, but I've come to accept that the hub is currently the Quicksand. Best way to change that or branch out? RP in Limsa more!

Haha, to me, gearing up in FFXIV has been the less stressful thing ever. I come from games that are a real pain, where gearing up depends on luck and not effort. Now that's stressful ^^; I guess it's because I'm used to that kind of nightmares that I find FFXIV system so nice. I mean, I've just been doing a daily roulette everyday for the past months. That's nothing, it gives me so much free time to do other things, and I still have the reassurance that I'm progressing. I haven't done a single Coil run myself, and having the myth tomes system, I fail to see how doing Coil is mandatory. Doesn't it just give the same stats as the myth tomes equip? What I mean is, out of all the MMORPGs I've played, FFXIV has the most relaxing and most player friendly endgame content I've ever seen. I'm actually surprised to see people quit due to it. Myth gear is in some cases better, some cases worse than coil gear. It's a mixture of myth gear and coil gear that the best-in-slot min/maxers seek. Coil's not required by any stretch of the imagination imo.
-
And that is why I raid with RPers. (Well, 6/8.. the other two are just cool and I'm married to one of them) I get gear I want to get because it's fun. I don't grind shit unless I enjoy it. I RP when I want to. It is a game I play for FUN and I want to have fun doing it! So if I'm behind to other people because of that, well, screw 'em.

I see! Thanks for explaining. I'm sure you've had every bit of advice already thrown at you, but.. I guess I'll give my two cents on it. I don't expect it to convince you to come back or anything, just kind of a.. "well, you're not alone?" type thing? Roulette is great, yay bonuses that help you hit myth cap every week. What it's not good for is learning, or finding your niche with a group of people, or making friends. My advice would have been the obvious: run with friends first and foremost. I was "behind the curve" for a long time. Still am, really. It took awhile to get our coil static going, because one: we had to find three more people that were relaxed, nice, and willing to learn with us; two: we had to get our own roles equipped, which involved my switching my myth purchases from WHM to BRD after I had already gotten several pieces for WHM. Being split in myth between two jobs meant I was behind in gear. Only with the myth cap being increased have I finally been able to complete bard and move back to gearing WHM and feel "caught up" on that. When we found a few people to join and we had all worked out our roles, we started hitting it. But only once a week. There was no grinding on turns for hours or multiple nights. We had one shot once a week due to scheduling and our own rather casual raiding style. We've managed to be in farm mode for T1-4 with our little static for a few months now, and are now starting to learn T5. Once a week for one timer, and that's it. So yea, we're "behind" in the grand scheme of things and probably always will be. It sucks, but it's still fun for us because we're doing it with friends, and learning together. That said, there are people at all stages of the game, all the time. The greatest thing I've seen introduced to this game so far has been Party Finder. This allows you to make learning groups with strangers, even if your friends are passed it (or not to it!) yet. I learned all the extreme primals through those because my static was not interested in them yet. Making a clearly labeled learning party for something means people have NO reason to be dicks about other people not knowing how to do something! And if they are? Unacceptable! There are buttheads everywhere who will give you crap for not knowing what to do. Again, that's why roulette can be bad. x_x I didn't do it for awhile, until I had the dungeons down that it might pop, because I was afraid and knew that people would not help me learn there. I think something important you were lacking was a group of people to do things with for the first time. Figuring dungeons out with friends is so much less stressful than with strangers, and iLVL doesn't matter. Of course, maybe you did have a group, but they were past what you were and were unwilling to step back and run with you? I would have found a new group before I quit the game, myself.

I'm not going to pick apart your reasons for leaving (as much as I can't understand it! - but I'm one of those crazies who stayed since 1.0 OB and did nothing but RP when the game was terrible because I loved the world), but I am curious what you mean by specifically: "but the further design decisions and continued sense of being not really useful to...well...anyone or any stage of the game has rendered my decision."

This. With the addition of using EST as Eorzean standard time, not just Eastern.

This is the between-patch lull. People burn out really quickly and flip around between MMOs a lot. That's totally not much comfort, I know. I see plenty of people running around with the x-RP FC tags these days to know that there are still a ton of RPers out there, but finding open-world RP is a bit of a pain during these times of slowness! Just know you're not alone!

I can answer this for K'aworu: BAAHAHHAAHAA. ( )

Pretty much agree with Li here. XIV is one of those games for me. It holds me through gameplay and the environment. The world is just awesome. The visuals are just awesome. I have no reason to look elsewhere, and it makes me legit sad when people do. Always hate to lose people! What I've seen of other MMOs has not even remotely grabbed my interest. A game like Wildstar could have the best gameplay in the world, but I am a shallow creature and that art style is absolutely hideous and toony to me. I hate toony games, especially for RP platforms, these days. Sticking with XIV for the long haul.

Gaaah that is awesome! Great job!
