  1. Indicate the start of the destruction of the ability of people to make resource-dependent mods without paying additional costs in addition to the mod they want. Oh, it is completely a cash grab - one that's placated with the modders' ability to monetize their creations. That's why my problem is more that there's not been an iota of thought as to the implementation. Valve straight up decided to dump this onto Steam. Then again, that's not the first time this happened... THIS MONTH.
  2. Not discussing the Valve cut since that's standardized across everything - Community items, actual games, etc. And unlike the Zenimax cut it's a lot fairer to the person actually doing the work. (It's also better than an actual retailer from what I remember as it's in between 25-30% of sale price) 75% is abusive, period. Keep in mind that they already got their cut from selling the game + any DLC. The assets do not suddenly stop existing because a modder made an edit (and as people have said - there are some mods that don't use much of anything and instead create stuff outright from scratch). That they're entitled to a cut, sure. The license doesn't grant modding rights, but 75% remains outright abusive. Is there a point to even create a paid mod or not overcharge the customer at that point if you want to actually monetize your work? Doubt it. Zenimax gon' kill this faster (for Skyrim/Fallout at least) than Valve'll buy an interesting mod's rights and turn it into a full fledged game. Once the dust settles the program will likely be better overall for all parties involved but at this point the only way to win is not to play. Which is generally how I like anything Bethesda's ever made - not playing it. The platform won't implode, it'll just take longer to be implemented, and quite frankly I almost wish the SKSE team would. I'm not saying it's a bad idea, I'm saying it's currently horrible in the current incarnation because Valve did not remotely think about the ramifications that their platform will have. It needs more time.
  3. Introduced themselves with a "Y U NO" meme that made sense and was extremely clever. So much yays.
  4. And you think that modders don't deserve fair compensation because...? The problem in this particular situation isn't Valve (though doing something like this without thinking pretty much sent their own lawyers into overdrive, btw which is never a good thing to hear), it's Zenimax who decided that modders get practically nothing for doing the majority of the work on that particular mod. Which is also why I don't believe for a single second Zenimax'd release an Elder Scrolls game for free and go for only add-on money. (Then there's the whole issue of a check only being issued when 100$ has been reached, but that's another whole ballgame and also been how internets money has worked for quite some time.)
  5. IIRC it's publisher what determines the cut they want to take for themselves beyond the standard Valve cut. In this case, it's Zenimax being complete dicks but by having Valve straight up put the power in the hands of the publisher it kinda ensured that the modder themselves would get screwed. I don't personally care (I don't often play games that would be very much improved with mods or work well with the workshop) but it looks like an abusive practice with a pittance to the mod developer to pacify them. Also, it's a legal nightmare that modders have almost no defenses against. Wheeeeeee. I can't wait to see Modder vs. Zenimax go to actual court when the inevitable "fuck over the little guy" part happens. Oh wait, the modder's not living on the North American continent and all litigation has to be handled by the court of California? WHOOPS. Oh, even better - who do I send my freelance worker bill to after paying and testing a blatantly unfinished mod? I'm not doing QA work for free since I am actually a paid professional in that field. Valve has never had a single thought for the ramifications of what they're doing. I know I'm being facetious with most of these scenarios (especially the one involving QA work I mean if even regular devs don't want to pay for QA work imagine modders!) but it's just stuff off my head that could and likely will happen. Ultradavid's probably thinking to himself that he'll need to expand with all this shit going on. * * * I kinda lol at the proposition that they'd release the sixth one free. Sure they stand to make good money on mods, but you're deluding yourself that they can make the kind of money they would by just straight up releasing the game at 60/70$ and THEN charging for mods. Voting with your wallet only works locally, where your "vote" "matters". Otherwise, you need concerted action because technically everyone votes with their wallet - this thread being a perfect example.
  6. Greetings. You will find your typical warm welcomings here. Do not be afraid or hesitate to poke anyone in this thread (or who posts anywhere else on the forum) if you see 'em in game if you want to get random RP started.
  7. Clio's a pretty good artist person who loves her craft, thus making her a better artist person than someone who doesn't and thus wouldn't practice like she does.
  8. I'd aloofly point to the one IRL pic I've put up to say I am far, far, FAR whiter than Kellach is, but instead I'll just state it here. I'm as white as Kellach is black.
  9. Hey Ramuhnuh Uwee hee hee. Anyway, enough with the Ted Woolsey Kefka laugh, I got a RNG rant and I'm gonna make it. So as a few of you know, I'm procrastinating on getting Lights for Ragnarok because ayyyy I can get my BSM Lucis now and make it easier to do the rest of the Artisan Off-Hands I still need to do. So, I have 20% chance of failure on getting a Rapid Synthesis, and 30/40 on a 80% chance to HQ Mummer's Daggers. 20% x 3 fails in a row.

    ayyy

i think the only appropriate reply to that thread title is "lmao" but you are not an alien here, no you are friend. and friend deserve all hugs.
  11. I'm procrastinating on my Ragnarok Zeta by trying to get my Vulcan Lucis. <.
  12. I double checked and it's not Azeyma's symbol. I don't think there's anything concrete about it then.
  13. On the Waning Sun Pelta, it's a random sun. On the books, it feels more like a funky compass.
  14. omg these are the best. half tempted to throw myself into this tooooo
  15. Pretty much what I said before the line that was quoted by ArmachiA - That if we do recognize this is a problem and that we do not want this kind of behavior in our community, it has to be a conscious effort from everyone. I don't think this community has it in them to do this from the heart at this point in time and moderation can only do so much. And hell, you ain't the only one who been slackin' on the welcomin' train. I'm just as guilty as anyone else here.
  16. I just wanted to tag you because that's not what I'm talking about hence the snipping. I'm just talking about the forums, where snark rules supreme and outright hostility is tolerated (though IIRC all the mods chimed in to say that'll change which is good!) when I say "people just don't give a shit about one another". I'm still tackling the issue brought up in that the forums have grown more hostile lately and that's not good for anyone, new, old or fish. The new/old thing was used as an example - The reason I mention my own examples is because they're the examples I know and am familiar with even though they're not really relevant because I feel like I need to preface the fact that I GET RP GUISE every single time I make a post.
  17. Cool, a manly catboy. We need more of those. Welcome aboard, you see me in-game just farting around I'm usually open for RP. 'cause if I'm in-game and not AFK and not in an instance it's fair play. Even if I have to swap outfits right quick to do that. Plenty of other people are open to random RP too, so it's all good on this bus.
  18. An extremely driven drunk, willing to catch a boat and walk from Mist to the Lavender Beds because he forgot a drink on the table. Also, easily drawn into bed.
  19. Lemme tl;dr my post then : - Post Count/Rep/Join Date don't seem to be causing problems or at least nothing that can be easily quantified. - What seems to be causing problems is that nobody gives a shit about one another. - Maybe if we tried giving a shit about one another the atmosphere would be more positive.
  20. I actually agree with both these statements, as contradictory as that may be. I don't view them as contradictory - They're both sides of the same coin. Melkire is saying new people need to try, I'm saying old people need to try.
  21. Welcome! Don't be afraid to hit up any of the fine folks who posted in here (or... in everywhere really) for RP if you meet 'em in game. Don't worry about being a hot mess we've seen hotter messes ohgodthatsoundedbadplsforgiveme.
  22. Everyone knows everyone else, really? That I have to question. Same with the assumption that everyone's friends here. I think most of the regular users know who the other regular uses are and recognize a new person without any reference to a post count, yes :-X I personally think we're barking up the wrong tree when it comes to post count/join date/rep. There's maybe a correlation between these things and being ignored, but there's no real causation, I've found. Many have a lower post count than I, but you can bet dollars to donuts that they'd easily get people to comment/interact/whatever else with their stuff compared to me. And while that's an anecdote, I'd wager there's other such anecdotes out there to that completely blow this theory out of the water. Could probably even dig up another example using the Introduction forum but I don't have it in me to quantify it so I won't, but look at the disparity between received posts to each new person. However, my question was more onto actually knowing each other rather than just saying we'd recognize a new person. Let's be real here - how many people actually know each other here? As in, interact fairly often on the forum and out of forum (in-game suffices)? I'd wager not as much as advertised. I can safely say I don't interact with around... 80% of the most well-known posters here. Could be because their characters don't grip me, our storylines never intertwine, etc. (at least for in-game), could be for any sorts of reason. Arguably, apparently some people avoid me like the plague as I've been told (but to quote gmcfosho - "AND I STILL GO HARD.") I'd go right ahead and say that's a far bigger contributor to why there's been increased hostility around the forums and why people out there are hating on 'em. People just don't know each other, don't make an effort to remedy that either, putting the onus on the other person at all times. New, old, same difference. Someone quantified that the amount of posts in the new people forums has dwindled into essentially recruitment posts and scarcely anything, with the worst of it being in the summer of 2014 (coincidentally, around the time I joined - I remember my own thread having a grand total of 4 posts and 2 of them me). That's a problem we can actually do something about. Actually welcoming new people makes it so that, y'know, they know the forum is not only active but wants to see them around. The biggest hurdle is that this problem is a conscious problem - It's not something you can just say "oh let's hide this, show that, be more strict and all will be fine." It's something that has to be worked on every day by every member of this community and the behavior exhibited recently, and I'd even go as far as to say since I joined, shows that this is nigh-impossible. To finish this long-ass rant with a drama-filled, over-sensitive phrase because I totes can : Instead of "being excellent to one another", we have collectively said "fuck you I got mine".
