If there was no internet/mmorpg's what would you be doing instead?
Alothia replied to Maril's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
Not suffering anxiety from stupid things. Reading more. A lot more. Feeling like I'm a more effective teacher, perhaps. I'd spend more time with my husband. Wouldn't spend so much money on art. Develop closer relationships with people that I have around me... I'd also not be quite as creative. I wouldn't have met so many awesome people. I wouldn't have had the opportunities I have. I wouldn't be going to Comic Con next week. I wouldn't have the variety of books available at my fingertips without the internet. I wouldn't be able to plan awesome lessons with technology... There's good and bad sides to both of it. I think knowing when to take a step back and refocus on the important things in life is critical. -
Those are super cool! Love, love, love them! <3

Every board needs a haiku thread! [Prompt]
Alothia replied to Warren Castille's topic in Fun Prompts
Reading people's words Sometimes drives me up the wall. Learn good grammar, please. More serious: From darkness to light Hydaelyn calls us to her Answer Crystal's call. -
It would be much more efficient to just eliminate the perceived problematic posts instead of stifling discussion of the subject entirely. As someone who has done moderator work elsewhere (MMO-Champion to be precise) I'm no stranger to heated debate and...in all honesty I can't help but feel as though there's a bit of a knee jerk reaction over on this site. Ultimately it's your site and your rules (for the moderation team/admin team as a whole) but so far I can't really see anything that is truly worthy of an entire subject being locked down. If three students in a class of thirty are causing trouble then it's not fair for the tutor to toss everybody into an after school detention. Punishing everybody for the actions of a few is a very slippery slope. This was simply a reminder that we had the moratorium once. I figure that reminding people that discussions that turn into bashing each other end up getting locked, that's all. Sometimes you can pinpoint the epicenter of the disruption, and calling that person out is the best course of action. As a teacher IRL, I know that sometimes, however, you just know that there's a general feeling of unrest. In that instance, reminding the whole group that there may be a consequence helps keep everyone else in line...at least that's what I've found in my 10 years of teaching. The people who are enjoying the conversation can help keep everyone else on track. I apologize if you saw my post as another active threat, when really, it was simply meant to be a reminder to everyone to keep their actions and tempers in check. I think the best rule here is to not post if you're feeling affronted or heated. Take a step back from the computer and re-read your post before you post it. That's always the best solution, if you ask me.

Same! I'm always happy to meet new people ICly and OOCly, so if you ever see me in game, don't hesitate to poke me and say hello!
-
Welcome back! I don't think I ever met you, but welcome back nonetheless. As someone who just returned from a hiatus, I welcome you back, and hope to see you in game!
-
*wave* Nice to meet you~ And yes, if we run into each other, we should definitely say hello! I'm usually found running around Ul'dah or Grid...Limsa is a sometimes place, although I'm in the Mist quite often RPing with the people in Dark Embers. Also, feel free to stop by our FC house in the Goblet Ward 2!

*sticks flashy light on her head* Wee-oow wee-oow wee-oow

Guys, please keep this discussion civil, or we're going to have to lock the thread and put out another moratorium. We're all adults (I hope), so let's maintain a civil conversation about this topic. It's an important topic, one we're all pretty invested in as RPers...I'd like to continue being able to read discussion on it. Thanks!

Hello again to all of you people I haven't met! I'm Alothia, and I've been playing XIV since the first release. I've just come back from a hiatus...a much needed one mind you, and figured I'd introduce myself to those of you I don't know. My character is Alothia Starkwood, and she's a female Keeper who is pretty good at investigative stuff. Actually, she's better at being a go-between, but it's what she did before I went on hiatus, and it's what I've got her doing again now. If anyone ever wants to RP, don't hesitate to stop me if you see me. I may be running around OOCly, but if you ask, I'll let you know. And if you have any questions about the game or the RPC or whatever, again, please don't hesitate to stop and chat. I love talking to new people, plus I'm a moderator here, so it's partly my job, I guess. Anyroad, hope to see some of you new faces oot and aboot, as well as some of the older faces as well. I missed you guys!

So I figured it would probably be a good time to repost this since I haven't touched my old one since 1.0, and a lot has changed since then. I. Basic Info Characters: Alothia Starkwood, Lini Oakenwave Primary character: Alothia Starkwood Linkshells: too many to name Primary RP linkshell:Jutat De (FC) II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Light to medium. I like to be able to take time to simply play the game, but there are also times where I really like to get involved in RP. It really all depends on my mood and what plotlines I'm currently involved in. Views on RP combat and injuries: I'm not a huge fan of one on one combat, simply because I feel like I'm not versed enough in it to be able to do it well. As far as taking injuries, I don't mind her getting hurt on occasion, but what would need to be discussed ahead of time. I also think that all characters should take a hit now and then, because no one is perfect 100% of the time. Views on IC romance: I like it because it gives my character something to hold on to. Some of the best RP I've had has come as a consequence to her relationships, so it's also fantastic for plot lines. That being said, if that were to happen, I'd need tons of communication about it. I don't do the crossing of lines in RP, and it would be understood that 1. I am married IRL and am not looking for any substitute for that, so don't even try and 2. I will not ERP, so if you're expecting that, you won't get it from me. Other than that, I might be open to it with the right character if it developed that way. In that vein, Alothia is strictly heterosexual, although she will flirt with anyone and everyone. She gets a good laugh out of making people blush and stammer, and usually, she's fairly good at it. She believes in developing friendship first after her last string of relationships, so if you're looking to get into a relationship with her, be prepared for the long haul. Currently, she's in the midst of getting to know someone on a romantic level, but nothing is set in stone, and we're not rushing it. Always open to friendships, however. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Alothia only has one sister, Lini, whom I play, and her parents are dead. So there's no need for me to have any other family. Other people are always welcome, however, so I'm always looking for people who want to connect with her. Her closest friends are those she works with at Jutat, but she's pretty good at establishing and keeping friendships all in all. To her, friends are her second family, more important in some ways than the one she was born into. She is steadfast and loyal, as well as being fun to have around. Views on lore: Stick to what we have, and if it isn't expressly stated, we can work with that. It's there for a reason. That being said, Alothia doesn't fit Keeper lore because I created her in 1.0 when there was no lore to create with. But even that I've made to fit with the lore of the game. Don't go doing anything crazy OP, and we'll get along swimmingly Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): Depends on what the person owning the linkshell/free company wants. Say is usually IC unless denoted as otherwise. III. Other Info Country:United States Timezone:EST Contact info:Catch me here or in game or in skype. Just PM me if you need my info. Calling All Garleans and Ala Mhigan Resistance Players! [Balmung]
Alothia replied to Tiergan's topic in RP Discussion
Part of our FC's story is that Lily and Tayn help to get refugees out of Garlemald and into Eorzea. I'm gonna go ahead and post here in case anyone wants to catch wind of what we're doing and start RP from that. ^^ -
Looking for connections/to join plots/etc. [K'aworu Demiir]
Alothia replied to E'irawen's topic in Chronicled Connections
You're always welcome to stop by Jutat and get Alothia to find something for ya. I'm looking for things to do, so it'll be a good chance for me to have a job and chit chat with your Miqo! -
Don't forget that I'm on your list too! Since I'm not playing Wildstar, I'll have you do the pic of Alothia. ^^

Edited for clarification as well as to put in the advertisement graphic and add in a hiring tab for those people who might be interested in joining as a worker. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to leave them here and I'll get back to you as soon as possible! Thanks!

We are reborn through ash and flame. It is a never ending cycle. The eras come and go and we are slaves to it. Yet we can choose our paths until then, choose who and what we want to be. What is your choice? Jutat De is a company of people who believe in making the world better, one mission at a time. We strive to help the people of Eorzea in any way possible. We began as a small company, Corvus Cinis, under the leadership of Alothia Starkwood. Our mission then was simple...find things that needed to be found. Jutat continues with that mission, and has added onto it. More than just finding things, Jutat will take on almost any job if it is within our realm of doing so. In order to reach us, please stop by the Nerve Center in Ward 2of the Goblet, or send Moogle Mail to Alothia Starkwood, Lily Dawnsworn, or Tayn Zolin. We hope to hear from you soon!

Rp everywhere on Balmung! A little overwhelmed; Helps?
Alothia replied to WillOwisp's topic in RP Discussion
/adminhat Just letting you know that I went ahead and edited your post because it wasn't conducive to the Balmung/Gilgamesh server debate. According to the post in the last thread, we will be moderating those comments. Please keep that in mind. Thanks! -
Random factoid: That song is actually not about leaving a bar...but about the birth of the lead singer's first child. "Open all the doors and let you out into the world."

Log Horizon (yeah I know, don't start)
Alothia replied to Numenorean's topic in Off-Topic Discussion
I knew I liked you! Log Horizon is amazeballs. I want to cosplay Henrietta. *nod* <3 her. Or Maria. She's also awesome. I like it much better than SAO, but that's probably because LH focuses more on relationships and such, while SAO focuses on getting stronger and fighting battles. -
Clothing? You mean people actually wear clothes? ^^ There's only one dress in game, and that came out with this patch, so it might be a bit pricey. Other suggestions would be the Bliaud and a Skirt. I've always thought that that looked pretty nice together. It's not too fancy, but it's a good RP outfit. As far as pants, if you can get to level 50, the Mage's pants are nice. I like the way that they look with ta little bit of fabric poking out from the sides. That paired with a robe look really nice. Um...if I can think of anything else, I'll let you know!

Good to see you making a return~
