  1. Honestly, I picked Miqo' before I started RPing. Aesthetically, I liked the way they looked. I didn't know what RP was, I didn't even know I would be doing it. So no, my character name does not meet the lore. I started RPing in November of 1.0 release year, and Alothia was my first RP character ever. When I learned something in game, I tried to remember it and use it in her storyline. Am I perfect, no. But I tried to incorporate her physical differences when it mattered. If she was angry, her tail would lash and her ears would flatten against her head. Her fangs would poke out when she grinned. It was an always present thing. She was and is a Miqo'te in appearance and movement. When 2.0 hit, I could have re-rolled her as a Hyur because of the Fantasia potions. Did I? No. Because I have art of Alothia. I have a strong connection to her as a character and the way that she looks is important to me. I have, however tried to connect the lore that I have learned about Miqo'te and put it into her story. I know plenty of people who have done the same with their characters. Saying that Miqo'te have to act a certain way is no different than saying that people of a certain race IRL have to act like that stereotype. IRL, there are reasons that people act the way that they do. If you have a reason for your character to act the way that they do, whether it is something that they feel the need to tell everyone they meet or no, why should it matter? Perhaps their reasoning is something that they're ashamed of. Perhaps it is something that they don't think of because it is so deeply ingrained in their persona. Again, what does it matter? Does Y'shtola act any differently than her human counterparts in the storyline? I don't ever remember her doing so. Sure, there are some NPCs that embody the tribal life, the tribal traditions. But there are those that don't as well. Just as in the real world, we should have characters that fit the spectrum of personalities, character quirks, and backgrounds. To say that all characters should fit into a certain mold is to do a disservice to the breadth of originality in both writing and in life.
  2. I think that's a reference to the fact that there are a lot of miqo'te characters that aren't informed by (or hew entirely to, depending on who you ask) their racial culture; they're essentially being played as hyur who happen to look like miqo'te. Whether this is bad or incompatible with lore is a topic on which there's some debate. That said, I wouldn't put it past some people to say their miqo'te is actually a hyur wearing cat ears and a tail... The sad thing is that some of us made our characters before this lore was released. Holding that against people who play their Miqo'te that way is just as bad as yelling at people who play seeker males to lore. I don't understand how someone could come to that conclusion, even without racial lore. There are a lot of gaps in racial lore so assuming/making your own fanon seems to be necessary if you want to play a traditional member of your race but be able to expound on your character's history. Not everyone plays to lore, but if you do, I think it is expected to go back and change notes about a character as new lore makes some assumptions/fanon obsolete. Otherwise, you are not playing to lore. If it were a few things to change, that would be great. But some of us created characters in 1.0 and were playing them for a year before we knew anything about the tribal lifestyles of the Miqo'te. I've been playing Alothia since November of 1.0, and I sure as heck wasn't going to completely change her character at that point. I did, however make a note in her backstory that her family didn't want to adhere to tribal law, and so they set out on their own, taking residence near a Hyuran village in the Shroud, hence why she was raised and acts the way she does. Anywho. I apologize for getting everyone off topic. Please continue with your regularly scheduled complaining about the annoying and unnecessary locking of Balmung to new character creation.

  4. Let's see: Alothia tends to be self conscious about her looks, whether it be her pale skin or the bit of stomach she has. She will try to dress to conceal those insecurities as best she can. She is insanely jealous and will have complete mood shifts if she feels as if she's being threatened. As much as she tries to deny it, she does love the creatures of Eorzea, even ones that she has to kill for one reason or another. She likes to think that their deaths weren't in vain. She loves to drink...and it doesn't take much for her to act goofy when doing it. Although it comes out in more than one way, depending on her mood. She enjoys smutty romance novels. She's even tried her hand at writing a few, although under a pen name no one would recognize.
  5. Man, I wish I had seen this when it was going around. I definitely would have reblogged. Ah well. I can't wait to see the finished products! This is going to be an awesome project!!
  6. "Long have I traveled, and long have I sought A solace inside me, that no man has wrought. I thought I'd find peace, on these streets paved in gold Instead I found sorrows, more than has been told. Garleans and Eorzeans, both foes and friends Came into our doors, seeking means to their ends Calamity struck, and then I was gone Five years I was missing, five years too long. (author's note, yes, it's slant rhyme. Sue me) The land had changed much, by the time I returned, The land and the people, Upside-down, my world turned But more friends I found, and a new place I made Until the day I was captured, then the happiness fades. But now I am back, once again on my own Finding a footing, finding it all alone. I hope that my story, will continue to thrive And until it all ends, thank the Twelve I'm alive! So... Sit down for a drink, and forget your sorrows! Let all your concerns disappear 'til tomorrow! For many a tankard and story have spilled At Momodi's (quite lovely~) Adventurer's Guild."
  7. Keitaro did that a couple of times. One time he managed to swipe a whole taquito off of the coffee table. We laughed so hard and let him try to eat it because it was so damned funny. ^^ Super cute cat~
  8. Cute animals!! (They're mine) This is Doctor Bombay: And this is Keitaro Hugo: And Koda (she's ever elusive when it comes to pictures):
  9. Right!? My desk is a veritable disaster area. And my cats come bother me at it when they know I'm doing something relatively important. They're so kind, my kitties. And...
  10. I really like the spirit of this thread. I think we've all felt this at one time or another. *hugs* I'm in the same boat as you. I feel bad because I let RL things get in the way of the game I love, and it has caused strained relationships with people that I used to be quite close with. It hurts, and I can't help but sympathize with you and your want of mending. I'm gonna add my name to this list of apologies, and say that I hope that we can all find it in our hearts to forgive one another this season. It's a good a time as any. <3 Hang in there, and best wishes!~
  11. aw aly so pretty! *waves off Kass* Staaaahhhhp~
  12. I've been trying to figure out the thing much myself. I've taken a few extended breaks, and I really can't commit to being around like I was back in 1.0, no matter how much I love the world and this game. My advice is to find a group of people who are small and easygoing who can help you ease back into things. Small plots, casual events, stuff like that. Then, as you make those closer, lighthearted connections, start getting into more in depth things. Best of luck to you!
  13. Oh my goodness! You're adorable! *kicks ground sheepishly* Thanks...
  14. Lovely! *waves off* You're too kind~
  15. A life that doesn't involve fighting anyone Her friends' health...if they could just not be corrupted by voidsent or injured or anything...that would be lovely. Someone else to do the bookkeeping Can we go back to before the Calamity please? Time where people aren't looking for her A nice winter coat. You can never have enough of those.
  16. Not that anyone cares, but here's some pics of your friendly neighborhood moderator:
  17. Just popping in to say that I deleted a post because it wasn't constructive and could be construed as negative. If we're going to have threads like this, lets keep the comments positive or not comment at all. Thanks!
  18. I'm so sorry Yeah, that's what I've heard. But if it's as well written as everyone says it is, I'm looking forward to having my heart ripped out of my chest and stomped all over. *makes squishy excited girly face* It is. It's so good and... yeah... worth it. I'm pushing through the zone to do his personal quest...need to get there and help him out!

  20. Solas romance is going to be the best and worst thing ever. I can't wait to get closer to him!
  21. Alothia liked to write dirty novels in her spare time. Never really shared them with many people. And she certainly was no "Tailfeather." But she wasn't bad.
  22. It was an aesthetic choice before I knew I was going to even try RP. I just thought she was cute. Also...Hai Madda! ♥
  23. Alothia stood in the shadows of the junction of another alley, watching the people walking past the woman with the fliers. One that was tossed to the wayside rolled toward her feet, and she bent over to retrieve it, unfurling it quietly as she maintained her spot in the dark. Her eyes quickly scanned over the words on the page, and she sighed with a small huff of breath. It was as she suspected. Word of the Syndicate and it's various dealings were getting out, and the name of the Sultana was being dragged down with it. She shook her head and tucked her tail beneath her robe before scuttling off back down the alley toward the markets, where she could easily get lost in the crowd. This simply would not do. She folded the paper and tucked it into the pocket of her robe, noting the date and times scrawled at the bottom of the parchment. Perhaps this would be something she would look into at a later date.
  24. I love it when... I'm able to build close relationships with people OOCly that last far longer than I thought it would. I get to see a side of a person that other people don't normally get to see. There is no drama OOCly...sometimes it's harder to find than you'd think, but when you do, it's beautiful.
