  1. Warren's probably heard this in passing at one point or another in one linkshell or another but something I worry about with Shoshopu is coming off as overpowered. I mean, people already scoff at the idea of fighting primals. And that's a prerequisite for what she does. What would they say if they knew she's done it four times? To counteract this, for public RP, with people I'm not familiar with, she only ever uses her Leviathan-egi, but when I'm RPing with friends and people from my FC, she can use two other -egis besides. My FC had weeks-long story arcs with weekly RP events leading up to each of those fights, and the fights themselves are typically done in Skype with a rolling system, but other people don't know that, nor do they have to care. So... I'm in Warren's boat in that I don't really know how she comes off to most people. The people I RP with tell me she's enjoyable, at least, but I don't really "get out" as much as I should.
  2. Shopu was the only lalafell I saw there, but I had fun She ended up having a fun conversation with a highlander with eyebrows to rival hers. Thanks for hosting!
  3. I decided I want to go back and revisit some of the cards I've designed to make them more viable. Yes, some mythic rares aren't playable, and not all legendary creatures are worthy of making a commander, but that doesn't mean the cards I make have to be the weakest thing. I started with Shoshopu and Fyrilsunn. Shopu's been redesigned as a Planeswalker so she can really generate that value, and Fyrilsunn's been beefed up into something I think could be a viable and fun Commander. http://i.imgur.com/3bEd9pB.png[/img] http://i.imgur.com/3Z3w38X.png[/img] http://i.imgur.com/wXEOnb7.png[/img] http://i.imgur.com/zJ8D8No.png[/img] As it turns out, "Unblockable" isn't even a keyword. Maybe it wasn't ever, when I went back and reread Invisible Stalker (one of my old favorites) I noticed it read "Invisible Stalker is unblockable", not just "Unblockable" under "Hexproof". And the Oracle text is apparently been errata'd to "Invisible Stalker can't be blocked" so I've updated the formatting to Shopu's summoning ability and the text on the -egi. Also I'm very very excited about that screenshot of Fyrilsunn. Holy shit. It fits just right. Best screenshot I've ever taken imo I don't remember if I've posted the link in this thread yet but I've been throwing all of my cards into this imgur album: http://imgur.com/a/vhOPQ
  4. It's my understanding that most people in Eorzea- the average Eorzean, at least- are illiterate. Player characters/adventurers are special, of course, so I guess that's why most RP characters conveniently can. Most of my characters are arcanists so they're literate, but my primary-alt Awyrbyrt is totally illiterate. It's mostly played up for laughs because nobody seems to realize it, or acknowledge it, IC (say he's walking through the deep Twelveswood with a party and they pass by a sign that reads "danger"- the others take note of it but say nothing, assuming they can all read it, and Awyrbyrt just looks at it and goes "oh a sign" and keeps moving) He might eventually learn to read but for now he's being a stubborn arse about it, despite his father's insistence. My other illiterate character is reserved for private RP but she grew up an orphan in deep La Noscea so she had absolutely no reason nor resources to learn. In the setting she usually finds herself in it's not really relevant.
  5. I'm pretty sure you can just buy those off the market board. They're called Dream Hats I think?
  6. Are those failures something she could work through? Shoshopu's been looking for innovative ways to make bigger, badder -egis and learning new ways to manipulate one's aether seems to be the way to go. It could be something they end up working on together...
  7. I'm gonna give this a little bump because I've updated the OP some. Something to note, my interest in Awyrbyrt waxes and wanes (right now it's waning a little bit, especially while I have less free time during the holidays, but I'm leaving him in the OP because it's less trouble for me that way) and as an alt I usually don't log in on him just to stand around and see what's up. But if anyone would still be interested in RPing with him at some point feel free to let me know and we could work out something when I have more time for him.
  8. God yes. It is the greatest Christmas theme of all time, too bad it is relegated to an MMO. It beats all of them, always moved me to at least some tears. Nothing will top this in my heart though...
  9. The story behind skullclamp is actually pretty funny. It was originally designed to be +1/+1 but at the last minute development thought it'd be cheeky and cute to make it +1/-1 instead, without realizing how hilariously broken it was in the current format. In every format. By the time they figured it out everything was already printed and they made an emergency ban on it before people could abuse it. edit: source
  10. Woah, now, we're approaching Skull Clamp design here This card was literally banned before it was shipped. It's legal in Commander and Legacy and that's about it I think. Bronco Grease isn't really broken because you need to keep producing new creatures to die to tap their things. Also that X in the mana cost isn't really doing anything... I like the idea though. It has the potential to make silly combos. I haven't designed any new cards in a while but I did recently redo the art for the Leviathan-Egi token. wtb Leviathan-egi square enix, come on, please. at least a minion.
  11. ugh, another white Egypt movie At least it's not Yet Another Retelling of the Ten Commandments. While The Prince of Egypt exists there's literally no reason to make another movie about the ten commandments
  12. SKREE Thank you so much!! It's fantastic! I'm excited to see more!
  13. Mhaya crafted my Sky Pirate's Coat of Casting! So I can attest to the her quality of service. :3 Didn't know you had an account here! Thanks again!
  14. hnnnn that is some lovely stuff! I especially like the pencil drawings. I'm a sucker for those, even compared to really neat digital stuff... I followed you btw, I'm dragon-noises! If you're in the mood to draw a lalafell or roegadyn, I just so happen to have an imgur album full of references for Shoshopu and her roegadyn bestie doink
  15. Shoshopu's got a brand new glamour! I'm loving some of this new 3.1 stuff! https://41.media.tumblr.com/fa8f3b1b5253f70d1a34e25ae2e3c319/tumblr_nxsm4lbUmt1tlcg0eo2_1280.png[/img] https://40.media.tumblr.com/6d803f97703a2de7a583452aa04b253c/tumblr_nxsm4lbUmt1tlcg0eo1_1280.png[/img]https://40.media.tumblr.com/2da1178d3e5d5ad472c8a1a064acdf3a/tumblr_nxsm4lbUmt1tlcg0eo3_1280.png[/img] I'm in love with the shoes and hat but had a little trouble finding a top that went with both of them. I think this will do!
  16. I know I'm a bit late to the topic but re: the blessing and the echo??? It seems to me that you can't have the Blessing without having the Echo, but you can have just the Echo without the Blessing. That was always my assumption and I don't see why Alphinaud's reaction to Krile's revelation changes things? Perhaps it'd make more sense for him to be surprised that she has the same Blessing the player presumably has instead of being surprised that she just has the Echo, but eh? Weird writing? I'm still thinking they definitely aren't the same thing, though. Also maybe "Hydaelyn's blessing" could be a colloquial term for the Echo (as it is granted by Hydaelyn and is generally benevolent, so, a blessing, in a general sense), but is a different from being a literal Warrior of Light. Perhaps the characters themselves haven't realized the difference (or come up for an alternative term for it)? I like the note that no two manifestations of the Echo are the same, though. Even though I think that was the general understanding of it for a lot of people that really supports the way lots of folks in my FC have been RPing around the Echo. There are more ways to have the Echo than just understanding soul-whispers or having visions, even if we haven't seen them all.
  17. As I recall, Thavnair is a region of the city state Radz-at-Han. There's quite a bit of lore on it but most of it is in flavor text and such. My personal interpretation is that it has/will borrow a lot from FFXI's Aht Urghan. Ul'dah has already, but I think Radz-at-Han will keep going in that direction. The Thavnairian Bolero set looks so much like BLU armor...
  18. Shoshopu's and Fyrilsunn's All Saint's Wake costumes! Only sort of late! http://36.media.tumblr.com/378b91f2625611d7d8adeef2691cf51f/tumblr_nx69upFM7Y1tlcg0eo2_1280.png[/img]http://40.media.tumblr.com/0dfc5a8e3f576844b564801a66088719/tumblr_nx69upFM7Y1tlcg0eo3_1280.png[/img]
  19. Unfortunately it seems like the image files for the card borders and such ingame are only so large, so to make a MSE-sized template for Triple Triad cards, you'd have to redraw the the entire thing from scratch at a larger size. But if it's any help, I made a Photoshop template for triple triad cards, made a blank golden frame, and grabbed all the numbers, stars, and type symbols. I stuck them in a zip here. To use the template you need a Photoshop program or something that can handle .psd's with layers, preferably something that lets you sort layers into folders, and layer masks. I use Photoshop CS6 so I'm not sure what kind of compatibility issues there will be. To choose the numbers on the card, the star rarity, and a card type (if any) you simply hide and un-hide the appropriate layers. Everything is placed where it's supposed to be so all you have to do is pick what you want and slap some character art into the appropriately labeled folder. I use a Layer Style to apply the black outline/drop shadow to the character art, but I wasn't sure how to stick that in the .zip so you'll have to do that on your own if you want that finishing touch. Here's an example. The fancy silver border isn't included, unfortunately. To make the gold frame I cobbled together the frames of the Bomb and... Cactuar I think... There's not a single file for the frame, but each card's art includes the card frame and the character's picture in one, so I chose a couple cards where the character didn't touch the borders in certain places, erased some parts, glued it together...... my point is though that the cards with the silver borders, the characters inside them are really big, so I'd have to completely erase the insides of a silver bordered card and all the fancy bits in the corners, and then re-apply the inside shadow once it's all clean. It's not as easy as it sounds to make it look as perfect as I'd like it to and it's also almost 6 am so I might do it later
  20. I don't remember the cutscenes specifying how Bahamut was killed, but apparently he was defending Meracydia not just from the Allagan Empire, but from Xande with his crazy Cloud of Darkness bullshit. Xande and the Allagans apparently knew how to permakill him but not how to trap his primal form in Dalamud and harvest him for solar energy, the Ascians had to teach them that. But as for Tiamat's imprisonment, it sounds to me like she just wanted the worst punishment for herself that she could think of because it's the only thing that comes close to atoning for what she did, in her mind. Maybe Midgard wasn't around to revive Bahamut because he wasn't around before the corpse was destroyed? Maybe whatever void-y darkness BS killed him corrupted the body? Or maybe he's only able to resurrect lesser dragons. When you kill the dragons he resurrects in the boss fight it takes substantial chunks of his HP, and although he's in a weakened spirit form there probably, in life it probably would have taken just as much or more out of him...
  21. I have an unused linkpearl I intended for Lalafells. It's called Shattered Shins. I'd be totally down for that. 8-)
  22. Can I necro this thread? I had no idea it was here and I love stuff like this! Shoshopu's deck is: Momodi Modi / Biggs & Wedge / Rhitahtyn sas Arvina / Vanu Vanu / Leviathan So Shoshopu is totally a Johnny. She enjoys the creative process of building decks and aims to express herself with it. So she's designed a deck that attempts to be competitive but is based around themes and cards that she likes. The first three cards would be obvious to anyone familiar with the character... they're Lalafell and Roegadyn cards! These three play well off eachother in games using Same or Plus rules. She picked up Vanu Vanu after her free company spent some time in the Sea of Clouds and assigned her to help establish good relations with the Zundu tribe. It has less synergy with the other three, but it helps cover Biggs & Wedge and Rhitahtyn's weak sides. It's also a little ahead of the curve, being a two-star card in which the sum of its sides is 19 instead of 18. A subtle but important difference. Leviathan is another obvious choice for her. She uses her favorite card as the trump card of her deck.
  23. weeps The whole childlike lalafell thing honestly isn't something that occurred to me at all when I was making Shoshopu, and I have never felt like I've had that problem, but some of my friends who play lalafell have. Back when I played FFXI and my tarutaru character, who I kept in mind when I made Shoshopu, had adventures in my imagination because I didn't write or RP, she got into some pretty serious and heavy stuff. However, since it was strictly in my imagination she kind of existed in a vacuum. Nobody ever took her one way or the other because she didn't interact with other players that way. So I went into playing Shoshopu with the assumption people would take her seriously and I just went with it. But I don't think Shopu comes off as one of those dark-compensation lalafell (like Virara or Abigor, who could and have kicked her ass, respectively). It's not something I intentionally go for, anyway. Her race only affects her character to the extent that her culture has influenced her as a character (the nomads who ride around on big animals thing), otherwise, she's just... her. She's a smart young woman doing magicky things. tl;dr at the outset I chose her race for reasons that were independent of the kind of character I wanted to have and the story I wanted to tell. And for the most part, with just a few exceptions, that's how she's carried out in RP. She's practically only a lalafell because in FFXI I was a tarutaru, and in that game it was for all that sweet MP. a tangent: Sometimes I wonder. Maybe I just don't RP at the Quicksand and public events enough, or something. I know people with lalafell characters who get creepy tells sometimes when they go out, but I've never had that on Shoshopu. (Sometimes I get compliments on her appearance in general, but not lately) I wonder if she looks too... "normal"... Dark, natural colored hair, as opposed to some kinda bright color, no makeup, no kawaii uguu outfits (at least not conventionally kawaii uguu, but I think she's cute as shit) ... and I wonder if that might be tangentially related to why I don't feel as if I've ever had the problem of people ICly not taking Shoshopu "seriously". But I'm used to not really attracting a lot of attention online in general (anon hate or creepers and the like) so it might just be whatever reason there is for that. This post got rambley as shit, I'm sorry
  24. Shoshopu was going to be Kukuni Kuni in remembrance of my SMN sensei in FFXI, Kunitetsu, but the name was already taken so I just hit the randomizer until I found one that sounded nice. All my alts, though, are Sea Wolves, so naturally their names all mean something. Awyrbyrt's is pretty on the nose. It means "Absent Axe". That immediately made his warrior father Fyrilsunn pretty bitter (because it wasn't his fault at all that he wasn't in Byrt's life at all) but from the outset I've been trying to make Byrt as embarrassing/upsetting to Fyrilsunn as possible for lols and feels, respectively. But Byrt tries his best. Dyrstswys means "Thirsty Sister" and she was originally going to just be a joke character that I'd ogle roegadyn dudes with (not that I don't do that on Shopu already, but it's all OOC there). She quickly oops'd into a serious character and though I RP with her, it's rarely in public. Mostly just self-contained story stuff. Her older sister Merlgeim ("blue jewel") just has blue eyes that are pretty, whatever, no story there. And Lahzlona ("salmon gatherer") is from a fishing family. She doesn't get out much.
