  1. I've known players doing this kind of RP and they simply don't have their IC strength reflected by level; most players I know don't take level into account. However, you can actually have your cake and eat it too in FFXIV, since you level multiple jobs on one character. If you really don't care about leveling a certain job on this character, like say, Culinarian, which just so happens to have a lot of gear suitable for this RP, you could totally keep it unleveled and switch to it whenever you RP. It wouldn't be terribly difficult to do. Leveling the job would give you access to better glamours, but there is plenty of lvl 1 buyable/craftable outfits that would serve your needs. You will probably want to get at least far enough on your ooc combat class to go to other cities though.
  2. I'd like to sign up for Antlings with Virara, but if anyone who hasn't participated in an HQE session yet wants to join, feel free to surrender my spot to them.
  3. I'm likely to be unavailable both of these times. Good luck! If I happen to be free and you need a sub, then I can manage.
  4. I'd like to sign Virara up for event A.
  5. Hahaha, we're an endangered species, it comes with the territory of being uncommon. I don't mind it though. People being dismissive is common, but I've worked hard to establish plenty of RP partnerships where that isn't the case. I rolled this race to minimize dirty tells, but they definitely have happened. Usually people don't bother me once I politely decline them. Romance RP isn't particularly important to my writing, and I have no interest in ERP, but I do think being part of the less common races, Roe and Lala, means that finding players interested in romance RP is going to be uncommon. I imagine it's because a.) most people can't detach from romance RP enough to play a pairing that they themselves wouldn't find attractive, and b.) most people want ERP, and would feel romance RP without ERP scenes would be "a waste." Refer to a.) There's just generally a ton of blending in romance RP and people don't notice characters that aren't attractive to them personally even when their character would. That being said, it isn't a particularly big deal to me because traditionally my RP characters have more important things to do than date. Typically they see romantic entanglement as undesirable because they lead dangerous lives, and feel getting into a relationship or, god forbid, marrying someone would be tremendously cruel and irresponsible.
  6. I think it's telling that compared to the scenario mentioned, my character comes off as culturally sensitive, and she both cannot tell different tribes apart other than the obvious, and is still convinced the Au Ra are bipedal Scalekin. (Much as she wrongly thinks dragons are nothing but huge, intelligent scalekin.) Naturally there's no malice in her, she is merely ignorant.
  7. I'm not really certain how the other characters knew yours were Dotharl without godmodding. If anything, given that your characters are so far removed from the tribe itself, it is unrealistic of them to expect yours to have anything in common with Dotharl, as your Xaela would in all likelihood be as foreign to the steppes as Hingashi's people. A passerby could even be forgiven for assuming your characters weren't Dotharl at all.
  8. Usually my comedy elements rely on how serious my character is. For that reason, it's heavily reliant upon situation, the people around her, and the ability to poke fun at her in my emotes. By suggesting myself as a separate narrator and making observations about Virara's actions in the emote, I try to draw out the absurdity in her behavior, or how unsuited it is for the current situation. I don't consider myself particularly funny, so I'm very happy when someone says they laughed, or they were entertained, or even just that they thought Virara was cute. A lot of my RP can be pretty grim and unpleasant, so I'm glad to have moments of levity people can enjoy.
  9. If this club is so secret... then... Why can I join it?
  10. I think it might be fun to have Virara attend and I should be free around that time.
  11. I'm up to go to B, but if something opens in A, I feel my character belongs there more.
  12. I'm surviving. I hope you've had a good holiday too.
  13. Apart from a durable coat and metal knuckles, not very. She is more durable than her size would imply, but still can't sustain many severe injuries compared to larger Spoken. She relies on not being aimed at in the first place ideally, but if that's impossible, her training allows her to consistently avoid being shot from one direction and one opponent, maybe two if they're unskilled or distracted, maybe three if they're in the dark and/or panicking. She would rather just be behind cover, but Virara is small and incredibly fast, enough that aiming a gun at her is challenging; she can't dodge a bullet after it's been fired, but potentially could deflect extremely predictable subsonic musket balls or poorly aimed arrows with her iron hora. All of this flies out the window against volley weapons like that which the Garleans use. Against them, her odds are only favorable if she has the element of surprise and doesn't get shot at in the first place. Otherwise Virara doesn't have the money for good armor and is seemingly not that skilled at using "internal techniques" as she calls them to bolster her durability; if she is, it's likely she has her hands full keeping herself in one piece when she punches. Her thick coat provides some protection but is unlikely to stop a bullet fully. She had armor that could from a friend but that has already been destroyed in a difficult fight. Probably her best armor is unintentional; since she ruins her cheap iron knuckles regularly, she carries a brace of replacements at all times. Maybe if she was lucky one could slow or deflect a bullet, but they could also shatter. As far as magic goes, she doesn't have any particular resistances. If it is slower than a bullet or arrow she might avoid it, but a curse or something that covers a wide area would be trouble. (Though she was able to avoid a room-filling dragon breath with only minor burns, but it's unlikely to happen twice.) She is not very experienced with magicks and is often at a loss as to how to deal with them.
  14. Hm i can understand wanting consistency but I wonder if they couldn't have kept the old work? Not that it matters to me personally as I've played in JP from the start.
  15. If you rewrite the questions to be as neutral as possible and remove the requirement for a name, I'll be glad to participate.
  16. Isn't the Makai stuff resold by the Calamity Salvager? They did say Armoire items also can't be used in the new system, which makes me think the current isn't going to be going away. ...but a commode can at least hold those items we kept -only- for glamour like dungeon drops for roles/classes we've long out-geared. The ones available from GS cannot be dyed, so I wouldn't want those necessarily.
  17. I really hope i can keep the item. I do not want to get rid of certain items like makai stuff that someday i may be unable to get back. T_T
  18. There is a Lalafell child arguing with a Hyur child of probably similar age, adopted by a Roegadyn father, in the Gold Saucer. She uses the same model as the adult Lalafell, so there's reason to believe it's pretty hard to judge their age based off appearances. Of course, this could just be the effects of a growth spurt, and she has only just recently jumped from miniscule to small. This is not to say they look eternally young, but the structure and physiology of their body perhaps just doesn't show age in the same way larger Spoken do.
  19. Despite being poor and constantly wandering about, my character is actually a bit fastidious about cleanliness. It was inculcated in her from an early age by her Master, and in the Doman manner, which, depending on whether it's Japanese style or Chinese style because of the game's weird identity crisis, obviously takes cleanliness very seriously. Usually it fell to her to draw water and heat her Master's bath after a drink. After heating it to piping hot, she would usually get a shot at it when it was already lukewarm some time later. If she was in a good mood, they'd go in together. Virara still prefers the bath about as hot as possible without being deleterious to one's health. So at any chance she gets to avail herself of running water, she will wash whether she's allowed to or not. Sneaking into a bathhouse without paying is not uncommon; she grew up hiding a lot, and can hold her breath a long time for someone with such small lungs. If she can't she'll use rivers, fountains, stray buckets of water. She prefers the hot springs when she can find them because it allows her a chance to soak and massage her hands in the water, which often ache due to her constant training. She hates sweet foods, so her teeth are in good shape. Because her hairstyle was given to her by Master, she takes good care of it despite it having more upkeep than the rest of her appearance. She could care less about her looks, but anything given by Master is almost sacred. That being said, beggars can't be choosers, and she will endure being filthy for a long while if necessary, most often during long forays into the wild or training trips. The other reason why Virara insists on being clean is that a distinct scent makes it harder to go unnoticed when hiding. Her nose is very sensitive, so she is immediately aware of others hiding in her presence if they haven't washed.
  20. I may be wrong, but I believe these aren't the same RP characters from 2.0, no? I think you've changed characters many times. If you have been swapping characters a lot hoping to strike gold, it will become difficult to get others attached to them. Simply trying to RP what you think others will like, I feel, will inevitably become unsatisfying to you in this way. No one will have time to get to know or invest in your character, you won't become attached to them in return. This can even get costly if you're prone to buying Fantasia to reroll your RP character whenever you wonder why they don't attract RP. But I've discussed this on here before, and I think people looking for an excuse to leave the server, or even the game, will find one one way or another. It all depends on your will to continue, or maybe grow as a player/RPer. But as for OP, I don't regret rolling Lalafell. It's kinda meaningless seeing as you already made your choice, but I never picked this race because I felt it would be easy to play, or popular. It fit the character concept I cared about, and I committed to it. Sometimes it gets lonely because few people have an interest in running a Lalafell, let alone one that's more than a gag character or an alt, but I recognize that not everyone is going to respect my concept, or my choice of character race. The amount of times I hear "I tend to not want RP with Lalafell, except yours" (And any number of variations I've heard: "they're too silly," "I like to broadbrush them as creeps and trolls," they're too unrealistic in this highly realistic fantasy setting.") is discouraging, but also flattering. You take the bad with the good. If I've made a good impression, and I've managed to entertain, ultimately I don't want anything else than that.
  21. Around middle school, or early HS, I got my start writing Imaginary FAQ for original characters to an original theoretical fighting game. I became more interested in writing a detailed plot from then on out as I thought of why the character behaved the way they did and how they learned their special moves. I slowly grew from "they have this because it's cool" to "why did they learn it?" and things spiraled out of control from there. Later RP, mostly forum based, was largely an experiment to help me stay fresh for writing exercises, but slowly became a hobby of its own and "joined" with my IAQ interest years before. I played pen and paper RPGs as well, but because most of these were IRL I was too self-conscious to RP during games. Finding the RPC wiki by accident was what led me to RP in FFXIV, my first MMO RP. Prior to this, I had not RP'd in a good four or five years.
  22. The most common RP I run into is open world, random couples or trios of people RPing in one of the cities, usually in a bar or in the street. However, since I'm usually extremely busy, I end up playing more with people in LS and rarely have time to walk around and get approached like I used to. Most of the RP I actively participate in is storyline based from in my LS or FC.
