  1. Going to second (third?) the more DM controlled aspects as well as 'sessions' with 'cut offs'. Typically when I'm running a story arc/story line that involves others I approach it much like running a tabletop game session. I'll come up with 1-2-3 things as potential bits that characters can find out. There's multiple ways to do this and always ALWAYS count on the fact that players/player characters will come up with a way to get to/around something that you didn't count on. That's why having a broad/flexible outline works IMO anyway. Sprinkle hooks that may or may not guide people where you want them to go, things for them to investigate/collaborate on between the actual 'sessions' that progress the story. And don't be afraid to throw setbacks at them. It's kind of a 'soft' control approach rather than railroading, which no one really enjoys and it does partly depend on how well you roll with 'off the cuff' things that spring up.
  2. So a movie about Norsemen and Vikings punching their way through Valhalla and fighting with Valkyries and riding Hresvelgr with a cast of nothing but black people with Bostonian accents wouldn't be weird to you then. Because that's what this is. Would I find that weird? Sure. That's a bit more extreme than what's going on in the trailer for the movie though. Not really? I don't see how one is more extreme than the other, they're perfectly parallel examples. People with little to no ethnic connection to the culture and location used as the backdrop for the film are cast in the entirety of its important roles and most others, to the point where the actual races that have a tie to that location and mythology have virtually no presence, while speaking with out-of-place accents. That's both this film and the theoretical Black Norsemen film I have presented, to the letter. This movie. Still. This film you pitch Oli makes me think back to the glorious days of arguments on GW2 about how "there are no black norn/vikings/northmen11!1!1!!".
  3. Slightly off topic and I may be the weirdo here...but I'd actually be pretty thrilled if something like this came about in RP for one of my characters. >_> In that subtle, ever growing nagging/tugging in the back of their mind? Hells yes. That's the kind of RP that (while taking a LOT of trust to pull off) would certainly (if not irreparably) change a character. Do you try and secure power to make certain you don't slip between the cracks? Do you try and hunt down other things/people that have? Not to mention the effect on your view of the world. *ahem* Apologies. You're right though, it's very, very heavy stuff. But I agree, bad apples can most definitely spoil it overall. There's nothing wrong with just saying "Nope this isn't for me", either...whether it's to dimensional RP or anything else. But for those who want to try it, there's bound to be someone who will roll the dice on it. EDIT: And I'm not saying carte blanche on just any and everything, mind you. I, and most people, definitely don't want to sift through an RP concept free for all, that's why I think having some things to check off along the way is good. Works for me at least.
  4. Squall isn't white-haired. :3 Maybe he want's to be Squall's and Ultimecia's love baby from a crack-pairing that they've devoted years of sordid fanfictions to. Squall is just a Zack cosplayer. Anyway back on topic! Is it potentially strange? Sure. But you know what? To people who don't RP all of us are strange with our weird pretendy funtimes that often at BEST carry a slight connection to the ongoings in the game. That said, in my opinion it goes back to the ever popular quote: "The devil's in the details." I look at these sorts of things as I debate getting involved with dimension travel or even anything in general that falls on the 'far' end of the 'usual' spectrum. -Can you sell me on it OOC? GTFO with your super saiyan character from the Sega dimension who's also the reigning King of the Iron Fist tournament champion. -Can you show me, someone who is relatively well learned (thanks to the University of Sounsyy & Co.) on lore and generally likes looking at said lore that it's plausible? I mean hell, let's not forget how many people STILL say there's no Duskwight in Ishgard yet that's my main. -Can you pitch it to my character? So many people seem to forget, disbelief is a LEGITIMATE response. That's not offensive, it's not a slight against the writer. Eorzea is a weird and dangerous place, despite the happy sunshine filled pixels that coat the game if you really look into it. Strange shit happens all the time, but that doesn't mean the actual character has to buy it. To me, it's a textbook case of (for all the those tabletop gamers out there) quirks like "weirdness magnet" also known as BEING A PC. See the Classic Marvel Forever system's definition here. -And lastly, is it just a throwaway gimmick character that's going to be around for a month at best or is it something you plan to stick with? Well why's that matter? Simple. Just like a character doesn't have to believe it, the more (for me at least) a character interacts with and learns and is just around them, the more they're at least willing to give it a 'well, maybe you're a little less but still kinda craaaaazy'. If it's just a flash in the pan and the character is gone? They'll be chalked up as -actually- crazy and that's that. If you can pass that checklist? Sure, bring on the RPs. My body is ready.
  5. Not only is Swyg breaking the ole stereotype mold in a few ways, all of his posts that I've seen have been generally warm and friendly. Always appreciated on the interwebs and especially here. Please keep it up! That said, great wiki too on top of it all! I know who to send my Roe to for healing now.
  6. Nope. #sorrynotsorry True story. Cue thread explosion. And walking away without looking.
  7. While I don't play up Mar being a huge jerk, he definitely has his tendencies here and there towards some of the races. Inter-racial relations for one still make him kinda go 'hrm...' That said, if anything, he just turns on the "Mar snark" and is a polite a-hole.
  8. It's hard to find anyone straight in this game that isn't an NPC. We need a screenshot with Reilan and Mar to blow this thread wide.open.
  9. I never saw Young Justice. I was thinking of the Super Boy from the new Teen Titans comic, which suck giant donkey dong, in my opinion. Oh he ended up being the clone of the future son of Superman and Lois, and yes that book is very bad. I sat through it way to long before I dropped it. Slightly related to the OP, you should check out Young Justice. It's actually really really good. And as a fan of Superboy, yes agreed. The new 52 Superboy is pretty much something out of a very, veeeerrry bad fanfic. Then again, IMO, that describes a lot of the new 52. >_>
  10. You rang? 8-) That aside, I kind of prefer being rare with Mar (Go Team Duskie!) rather than some of the other races where you see half a dozen every time you take ten steps. Sure, it doesn't accurately display the game world, but it is what it is.
  11. I've definitely had some RP that left me drained moreso though I've been near onion mode a few times just in my FF rp. Counting other MMOs/RPs? Most definitely.
  12. It really does look that way, yeah.
  13. Hot damn. I love the PLD sword (less so the shield) and the MNK weapons. Yes please.
  14. Just a couple more of the folks I've RP'd with! Roen Deneith Jaliqai Qulaan Eliane Dufresne
  15. This thread is back again for the umpteenth time! Evangeline Primrose
  16. I blame the Megaman thread. fsaBsI0_viE
  17. Stealing Manari's post because I'd really only add Megaman 3, 9, and X4 to what's noted here. There was actually a brief period of time growing where I was banned from the old 'Nintendo hard' classic Megaman games because they incited some controller throwing fits in little me. Now I just yell lots of profanity instead. Also crazy bonus points for including Megaman Soccer on the poll. I WISH we could get a current gen remake.
  18. Welcome back! It's good to hear things are picking up and going better (not to mention seeing more of your arts!)
  19. I typically follow this route as well, myself. Seeing as I'm "only" iL178, it might be best to get the dungeons outta the way and see if it nets me some pretties before entering the Raid. Ideally, some guide vids will be out there at that point so I can tank things without being completely blind. Used to be fun, learning a thing. Now I'm required to be an expert before even clicking "Accept". Ah well. C'est la community. Don't you worry, Steelio. I've got your back as always. 8-) We will once again do the things!
  20. Just wanted to post and say that I had a great time RP'ing and hunting down this ugly (http://40.media.tumblr.com/fed4593abc35059c545d7f874764d430/tumblr_nvf2pxIfZK1tibuboo1_1280.jpg) with Jali out in Northern Thanalan. 10/10 would hunt with again 8-)
  21. Yes. I am a pretty terribad RP'er, you hit the nail on the head. Have you RP'd with me by the way? Or talked to someone who has? I mean I know I'm not a -real- warrior and all but I guess it could be worse right? I could be a whitemagevampiredragonmiqotedragoonwith3houses.
