Hello there, I'm Ravenna Orycto! I'm new to RP in FFXIV (but not other games/mediums) and I'm really looking forward to RPing on FFXIV! I feel I should give some background to my experience and such. I'm a veteran roleplayer in forum-based mediums, having done so for 15ish years. My in-game RP experience is almost solely in WoW, with walksup, events and addons a plenty, my experience with WoW RP numbers somewhere around 9-10 years. I heard mention of a better roleplay community through the grapevine of sorts of multiple discords and friends that said it was more.. immersive than WoW, so I did some searching and came upon this website. I generally tend to be a medium-heavy RPer in terms of my responses but I try to match my partner(s) as best I can. I'm recently giving RP a try in this game, however I'm completely out of the loop for anything outside of my previous experiences. I'm hoping I might get some insight and help here as I'm not at all sure how to go about roleplaying and playing my character in FFXIV as it's a very different game from what I'm used to! I'm not sure what free companies are (I saw mention of them but I'm still a bit confused?) Any help is really appreciated!

Hi All, New player and a new RPer at least in terms of MMOs. I've RP'd in other places but I've never RP'd in an MMO. FFXIV somehow appeals to me on a much deeper level than most of the other MMO's I've tried out. I have a little bard Lalafell by the name of Rat Duemila. I have no idea what I'm doing. If anyone could help, I'd appreciate it. I really want to get into RPing, but I have no idea where to start.

Hey all! Longtime Final Fantasy fan here, but I'm fairly new to MMOs. The only other one I have played for more than a few hours was Lord of the Rings Online for a couple years, however that was mostly for the RP community. I'm a longtime RPer, with most of my experience being in one on one original roleplay via instant messenger (Windows Messenger, Skype, then Discord), and then a little on LotRO, with some irl friends. I'm having a fantastic time playing FFXIV (though I'm finding mmo gameplay a little overwhelming at times, haha), and one of the biggest reasons I decided to start playing was hearing about the thriving RP community. I'm still learning the game lore but the character I'm working on developing is a male Hyur Doctor (Elgan Yarwood, on Mateus) with past connections to the Garlean Empire. I really enjoy darker storylines and playing... less morally upright characters, and was hoping to find other RPers who might be into that. I tend to land somewhere between a light and heavy roleplayer, where I enjoy delving into deep storylines and intense character development, but I'm more than happy to throw lore by the wayside in service of an interesting plotline or character arc. IRL I'm working on finishing my first novel, and I'm also an artist (so if we get along and RP together, I might end up drawing your character if you're into that, lol unsubtle bribery.) Anyways I'm not going to lie I'm pretty nervous and intimidated by the vastness of the community and I'm really worried about making a complete fool of myself so I thought I'd start in the intros section, rather than dive right into posting a character profile or searching for free companies etc. I'm looking forward to meeting you guys and I hope to make some meaningful connections and to tell some cool stories together. I originally planned to play with a German friend of mine on Shiva, but unfortunately, I am having a very difficult time. Sense I live in NA, I desided I wanted to play on Crystal DC. I actually played 1.0 a little bit on Balmung, but I lost that account some time ago. So, I want to return to it, had a plan to play a Miqo'te, took me maybe 6 hours in character creation, much of which I used to make my name, originally, I wanted to use my name.. Olivia, but obviously that just didn't feel right. So after some trial and pronunciations, I came up with "Via" as a given name, and after trying to fit it phonetically, I liked, "K'via" I searched through male names, in search of a sire name I liked to match, and made off with "Shikhu" before finalizing, I asked myself; "Wait, what is a Hipparion?" So... I found a wiki, which ended up bringing me here.. SO. I canceled my character and I am now putting it on hold as I DO want to try and role play with people, I also don't want to disrupt what the community has already created. I want to join Balmung, and I want to do so with role playing in mind. So, I am going to be here, and try to actively find any and all the info I can so I don't cause offense. Hey guys! Brand new RPer and even brand new to all MMO on Zalera. I have a lovely FC of friends, but I wanted to directly say hi to the RP forums! As someone who's very very new the the Final Fantasy AND MMO scene but have done a few laps around the forum rp block, I wanted to do a check in and see if I'm starting off on steady ground. I have a character set up I want to run by people native to the RP server, as well as FF14/MMO specific rp tips and tricks? A few of the threads based on questions I really wanted to know (In character Fantasia usage, Playing the Warrior of Light, ect) don't seem to exist anymore, so I wanted to make my own topic and ask specific questions about my tentative character set up. --Character Concept below, feel free to ignore if you're not interested in checking the concept and more interested in giving FF14 rp specific tips?-- My character Aelaeis is saddled with the dead horse trope of Amnesia, but I wanted to expand on that meaningfully. I wanted him to start off in his BG as an Ishgardian Darkwight Astrologian. From what I can understand in lore that's not a fun combination to be, and he'd eventually saved up enough to earn a Fantasia to try to switch over to being a less noticeable Wildwood Elezen. But due to a mishap with unstable location/magic/things I haven't specified yet for fear of discovering MSQ spoilers using the Fantasia backfires, and while he does flip over he also causes his mind and body massive magical trauma, landing him with a bad case of retrograde amnesia targeting not only episodic (personal) memories but also semantic (world knowledge) and procedural (skill) memories, leaving him without the memory of even how to read or walk. On top of that, the trauma to the brain has also effected its connection to the rest of his body resulting in episodes of loss of motor control, processing, focusing and a variety of uncontrollable motor tics. Pressure worsens the symptoms, causing him short bouts of anterograde amnesia (inability to create new memories/problems with short term memory translating to long term), and fully freezing up and shutting down physically and mentally. While I had him found and tentatively nursed back to some level of health by a clan of Viera (so that my friend's viera character can get involved), he was still very much unrecovered by the time the clan decided they could no longer afford to shelter him, and he will spend much of if not all of his story recovering, and full recovery may not be possible even if he improves. So his story so far has been ironically finding a home in Gridania as his new Wildwood self, attempting to act like a more confident and put together man than he is while still being fussed over by his party and terribly aware that he hasn't recovered to the point of being nearly as independent as he wants to seem while simultaneously coming into his own as he sees and learns about more and more of Eorzea, occasionally touching on some strangely familiar things as he goes. I'm only level 36 as of this writing, so I'm not quite sure where the plot will lead me as I'm working half blind and also using the characterization to give me an excuse to learn as I go, but still trying to give the set up proper respect. Does this seem like a good start? What might be good ways to work outwards or important things to know about the world that won't spoil me on plot? And how can I get more involved in the FF14 MMO rp community? Thank you for your time and patience!

I'm brand new to FFXIV as of a week ago, but a long-time RPer from other MMOs. While I'm enjoying the game, I really want to get involved with the RP community, both for IC and OOC fun. My character is Berehta Lodall, and she's typically found roaming the wilds looking for obscure plant matter, or having an afternoon tea at an oddly varying range of establishments where the unexpected can, and often does, happen. I play an older character so I'm doing my best to fast-track the game lore during downtime at work (so much, so good though!) in order for her to come off as somewhat knowledgeable about the world and its history. Hi! Long story short, I used to RP on Tumblr and other platforms back in the day and have since taken a long break from the online world. Eased myself back into it via FFXIV and I have been inevitably drawn to the RPC here as I've fallen in love with the game! Hello everyone, been lurking around here for a while now, having found this forum shortly after I started playing FF14 a few months ago. I've been enjoying various venues of online roleplaying since the late 90s, but have only dabbled a bit in Final Fantasy as a whole so I'm still trying to wrap my head around all the lore. However, I am very excited to become a part of this community. I'm starting to look around for an RP Free Company to join on Mateus while also working at ironing out my IC character concept for when Shadowbringers launches as I'm currently strongly considering converting my main character to a Viera at that point. I have some basic ideas but would probably benefit from someone who has more lore knowledge to tell me if a concept is completely ridiculous or not before I put in a ton of effort fully fleshing things out. Essentially I'm aiming for a character who is a scholar which among other things, has taken the study of nature and it's various life forms as a major focus of study. Just trying to work out the background details.

Hello new friends! I, too, am checking in from Goblin. I hope to see its RP base continue to grow!I I'm not new to MMOs or RPGs, but I'm low on RP experience and new to FFXIV. My wife and I play together and are going through the MSQ, RPng that privately between our characters; we look forward to attending events outside of that as well. I play a mouthy, wisecracking, poetry-spouting, and just a little absurd Miqo'te aspiring Bard named Kamah'li; she plays a demure, traditional, shy Au Ra white mage named Ayame Mizuki. Together, they fight crime/get wrapped up in Final Fantasy craziness/have tea. Fun facts: I actually practice archery IRL. I'm much better at that than iambic pentameter. Such is life. Hey everyone! So I'm not that new to FF14 (off and on since Heavensward) but I am 100% new to roleplaying. My wife got me interested in the glamour game not too long ago and one thing lead to another so here I am. I'm an old WoW refugee and big on adventuring but I haven't roleplayed in a very, very, very long time. I'm hoping I can find some resources on how to properly do it or someone I can talk to. I'm on Jenova and am 100% ready and willing to learn this side of the game, it looks really cool!

Hello! I just wanted to introduce myself and get my feet wet here, so to speak. I'm new to FFXIV, but not to role play! I'm playing a wandering Seeker of the Sun by the name of O'rizu Tia, Ori for short. He's a novice conjurer currently, looking to explore the world, and wants to become a lorekeeper someday. I figured this was a good character for someone not totally familiar with the lore yet. Anyway, I'm glad to be here, and excited to meet you guys, make friends, and have lots of awesome adventures :D

This... took longer than it needed to. I've actually been playing FF14 for about 4.5 months now but I think I've reached a point where I want to broaden my experience with the game. Actually, 14 is only the second major MMORPG I've spent time playing and I'm also playing FF4 and FF6 as well (my first was FF10). And I'm also looking forward very much to Shadowbringers as well. My main is a Miqo'te Dragoon called K'lhyia Helenah on the Brynhildr server, currently lv.70 DRG, Lv.18 BLU and Lv.57 BSM

I really want to get into RP, but I'm intimidated by the idea of writing a character before I've finished the game. There's so much lore I don't have access to. I'm afraid I'll mess up and look like an idiot. And even if I don't, I'm more used to writing characters to suit the RP than the other way around. With no idea of what to RP, I'm lost at both fronts. At the same time, I'd rather not spoil the MSQ for myself by reading the wiki for lore... I've already messed up a bit during character creation-- my main is an Au Ra with an Elezen name who worships Halone. Oops. Should I fanta/name change to make it more consistent, or try to write around it? If I fanta to Elezen, I'd mostly know the lore and it'd be consistent. But I really like how Au Ra look, and what little I've seen of their relations with other races seems like it'd be a fun conflict to write for. Changing to an Auri name would also be consistent, but I'd be mostly in the dark lore-wise and wouldn't really know how to write for it. As for trying to make my current mess make sense... would it be feasible to say she was adopted by Gridanians? The Garleans import their slaves for work in their outposts. Would it be plausible to say that her mother escaped from Castrum Oriens while pregnant, had her, and then gave her up for adoption to go back and help the resistance? That's the only way I can think of that an Au Ra would have an Elezen name and be generally ignorant of Othard/Doma. And searching for her birth mother would make a good motivation for an adventurer. I don't know. I'm just speculating based on limited information. Without too many spoilers, is my idea workable? (If it's not, a blunt "no" without game screenshots is fine. I don't need an explanation, I just don't want to make a fool of myself.) Should I just change my character into something easier to write? Thanks for reading. Hello everyone! The names Nova, webcomic artist by day, Dungeon Master by night, and awkward player of games by.. what ever free time I may have. I've recently joined the game, as in.. 3 days ago, after being permanently burned off of WoW, waiting in limbo between Living World Seasons in GW2, and burned out on ESO. I heard wonderful things about FFXIV, and so I got it as an early personal birthday present. So far, I'm greatly enjoying it! But one thing I do look for in games, is roleplay.. Even currently part of 2 tabletop campaigns ( 1 D&D5e and 1 Starfinder[Pathfinder but.. in space] ). So I end to search it out in the games I play as well! So, rather.. idiotically I didn't search for the RP servers that people designated in the game, and just rolled with some comic maker friends over on Siren. And now, looking at the server choices for RP. Oof.. the regret is sinking in. Thankfully I haven't gotten very far, level 35-ish on a single class and poking around on crafting, so re-rolling shouldn't be too bad. But I suppose as a newplayer I'd like to ask, which would be the server to roll on for RP if you're more into plots, over arching stories and an emphasis on character development? But ye, hello, hi!

Fist of all hello! I am somewhat obviously quite new to the game! I've been playing for a few weeks and very much enjoying myself. I am also a long time and Experienced roleplayer so... I did a little digging and what do I find? A full fledged community! So I thought I would jump in and state that I am looking for contacts! A little bit about the character. Tamoko is a skilled Martial Artist preferring to not engage in combat at all unless there is no other alternative. Not exactly advanced in years but not exactly young either she finds herself stranded rather far from home, at least for now and trying to make her way back to Doma. She tends to wander quite a bit but makes a sort of 'temporary home' in Ul'dah. Thoughtful and introspective and sometimes even a fountain of wisdom she is gregarious and sometimes easily amused. Her exotic features very often are home to a small, amused smile. Always ready to help someone out, and often refusing any sort of payment for services provided. Her existence however is quite lonely. Potential hooks: - Old friend/companion/love (with discussion on this of course)/rival from her homeland - The journey home. She'll need help trying to make her way back so all sorts of people can help her along the way. - New friends/companions she meets during one of her many forays into 'helping out'. Overall I'm looking to make connections, maybe join a Free Company? I'm really getting into the game and enjoying myself immensely. I'm on the Mateus server, but my playtime can vary wildly.

Hello. I have JUST set up an account here, bracing myself to finally open up the game after all those years of actually having it installed. The seemingly deathly task of actually starting my way after having created an actual character(s?) is absolutely mine to face, but I need to ask for advice from all you seniors about a different topic: what server should I pick? I don't have any friends playing and everything I've read about the specific rp servers contradicts itself. I would like to know what server would be: 1. Friendly for a COMPLETE newcomer to the game and the FF in general 2. Fairly accesible for an english-speaker living in Central EU 3. Filled with spontaneous rp and equally spontaneous roleplayers. Hello, everyone! As you can tell, I am new to this place! I've searched far, and wide, and have landed here. I'm a veteran roleplayer, looking to get into the RP scene that Final Fantasy has to offer! I'm also looking for contacts, link shells, FC's that are all about the roleplays. My character will be a shy baker type. I don't want to give too much away, because, let's be honest, where is the fun in that?

MMORPG background What can I say, I've played them all. From ALFA Neverwinter Nights to Ultima Online, from Secret World to Pathfinder Online. I played the Matrix MMO, and I participated in the beta for City of Heroes. If there's an MMO out there, I was probably RPing in it at some point in time. Particular highlights include running Nation in City of Villains (I was Black Agony), and Eks Sybarra in EQII. RP experience All of the RP experience. Since my cousin introduced me to gaming in 1990 I've been RPing ever since. I currently am a venture lt for PFS at my FLGS. Character ideas/info Now here there be dragons. I've never played FFIV before, and I have little knowledge about the world. I'm a lore hound, though, and a hardcore RPer, prefering to handle everything in the game, through the game engine, by the lore of the game world wherever and however possible. In character is where the love happens, and while I understand some of the need for OOC permissions and consents, I've also happily played games in which PvP is the rule of the day, and consent is solely for out of character issues. I take my IC lumps and I roll with them, and it all usually works out for the best when everything is handled from the character's perspective... But right now my character doesn't have a perspective. I don't have a character. Here's where you come in. Anyone looking for a brother? Long lost aunt? Estranged parent back from the dead? Does your guild need a doctor? Is there a shocking lack of normal un-mary-sue soldiers in your guild? Do you need a baseline thief to run scams for your criminal empire? I'm downloading the game even now, because without a roleplaying network to give my characters meaning,, to give me the mental and emotional entertainment that RP brings, MMOs quickly lose interest for me. I am walking in right now Tabula Rasa, and if there's anything you need or want, now's your chance to interest me with a pitch! How did you learn about the coalition? I literally googled 'FFIV roleplaying community'. This was the best of the first five results. What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? (e.g. Light, medium, or heavy) Ultra heavy. (Work, school, hobbies, etc.) Martial artist, author, gamer, Australian transplant, hentai, GM and Storyteller, aspiring third party author, and much, much more!

High, I am new to Role Playing and have a character on Balmung. I've always to get into to RP, but honestly it is a bit intimidating. What I am looking for is a linkshell or FC that is patient and friendly to brand new RP'rs.
