  1. I'm interested in this thread's discussion (not as much as in the pictures), but while I don't mind pictures of shirtless people posing, could people at least have the consideration of putting under Spoiler tabs pictures that might contain semi-naked people at rubbing-each-other proximity? Thank you.
  2. This is as close as I could go for Jet'a.... which is basically nothing like it. Lack of spectacles and high-collar robes >_>;
  3. Afraid of holes, no. Of pretty obvious bugs nests (holes in bee nests, spider nests, etc.), yeah, you bet.
  4. From: http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/pr/blog/001034.html Some news about the two dancers sets. The most exciting one, is that the male one includes a headgear similar to the BLU head set from FFXI, in that it has a veil (toggable with /visor). Unlike BLU's though, it's not black, but transparent. All the merrier, imo. And some recolors:
  5. I surprisingly found that my bank account had 6€ left that I did not remember of! I immediately ran to the store to buy some food for my cats and a bottle of water of myself. I was at the last cat food can and with only half a bottle of water left and didn't really know how to make us survive till this month's check would arrive (should be in a couple days) >_<... I've spent the last week consuming all the scattered reserves around the house because of no money, and even had to eat some expired stuff to get by. Amazing how so little money can mean so much.
  6. Let's look at the bright side. La Noscea's climate is perfect to stay shirtless. There we have our reason to RP out of the Quicksands! (I'd love to see many more people in swimwear around Costa del Sol, it's nowhere as crowded as the FFVII Costa del Sol was!)
  7. I think comparing Ul'dah to Ancient Egypt is a bit drastic. Most of clothing was exclusive to the wealthy (either because of taboos or because of prices). The poor wore nothing not because they could, but because they had to. They also did die at very early ages, for exposure to heat and also skin cancer (several types of cancers have been found descripted as early as in 2.500b.C. papyri). Sure, egyptians could wear like that today too if they wanted, but they would live a much shorter life, hence the evolution of clothing among beduins and other desertic populations since cultivation of cotton, flax and other materials became more common and less exclusive, as well as animal textures not being taboos anymore. I think Ul'dah is closest to the age of sultanates/modern era than to Ancient Egypt. But as for my overall stance on the OP's demand, see my first post. I'm not defending their request, just the logic of the topic.
  8. Actually one of the first things you'll learn if you go to a desertic country IRL is that exposing skin is a Very Bad Idea. Look at any picture of bedouins and you'll see that the ones exposing skin are always and only the dumb white tourists. Aside the notorious fact that desert nights are hellish cold (and this goes for cities in the desert, too), exposing skin to the sun increases chances of cancer, dehidrates you faster, and burns you. The clothing in the desert (and of Ul'dah) is usually light enough that it will grant you sun protection without making you sweat exceedingly. Not to say that people shouldn't go bare-skinned should the IC background demand it. Ala Mhigans for example are pretty poor, so I doubt they've got enough cloth to spare and dress themselves completely.
  9. I do notice a few sets (like the WHM Miqo'te here) seem to have the same pattern of Au Ra's RSE in terms of clothing style. Fur, leather, tattered clothes, feathers (the pink dress has feathers decors, too). I wonder if this stuff is going to be introduced as Othard clothing.
  10. All right... First off, my title is sarcastic, it's a way to poke fun at myself for my many posts about how I can't stand around people RPing physical stuff due to personal issues of my own (traumas of the past, bullying, abuse, whatchamacallit, take your guess, I'm not going to be specific). For the umpteenth time, sexual-related stuff disturbs me on a mental level and for that reason I had to take several turns in my life to preserve myself away from that (filtering signatures/avatars, not watching many movies, etc.). Does this reflect in me actually hating those who like to talk about sex, draw set, or even just RP sexual-related things (even not necessarily sex. Even just a kiss bothers me)? No. Absolutely not, because if that was the case I'd have to seal myself away from the world. I'll just look away from things that bother me, but keep my standpoint neutral on who does those things, otherwise I'd be doomed to hate the whole world. And at that point, I might as well get away from it entirely, if you know what I mean. But I like life, so I do not, thankfully. Do my feelings ban me from looking at revealing clothes and commenting them or even just talking about things such as courtesans, concubines, geishas, escorts, etc. etc. etc.? Nope. Or would you say people intollerant to lactose should never talk about cows or milk? Again, there is nothing wrong with RPing courtesans, or bellydancers, or ERP even. It doesn't make you a bad person to do that. And the way you react to me calling a dress "courtesan-like" makes me think that you do not share this opinion. That is your problem and not my own. Next time, you make the thread first and call each gear the way you like. I called it courtesan dress because I didn't even THINK there could be bellydancers RPers since you can't... well... bellydance in game. Good to know that there are, but it'll never be the first thing I'll think of when seeing that kind of dress. It'll be concubines. And looking at google, I'm guessing I'm not the only one, either. https://www.google.it/search?q=concubine&rlz=1C1IHCB_enIT613IT617&espv=2&biw=1250&bih=490&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=nr9oVfy9LoKuswGe64HAAw&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAQ
  11. The design is clearly intended to appeal the sexual drive (the cut on the leg, the laces around the legs, among other things). If you have seen some movies, you will see that is reflects the typical attire of concubines in the arabian/turkish/egyptian ancient times. They both delved into bellydancing and courting. Going around the streets in that attire was considered indecent (it still is, in those countries), and as such attributed to traders of sex (which again did include bellydancing. most of bellydancers ended the day with their customers in bed). I'm not sure why the negative reaction to that, however. I do agree it looks similar to a Naginata, but the posture of that model induces to me think that's a great sword, so... DRK, I guess.
  12. Yeah, I definitely agree. I'm looking forward to town gear, of the type that lets you blend in and not catch the eye with extravagant details, like that coat. Let us hope for more town gear prizes on the Gold Saucer! In particular, I'd like this piece for my female Miqo'te:
  13. If this was already shown elsewhere, I apologize. I did a quick browsing of the latest Headlines thread and couldn't find them. Anywho, here's some pictures from 5/22's Blog Entry. (Looks like all courtesans RPers willl have fun with this dress) Personally, I am particularly excited about the first one on the right (the Old London type of coat). I hope BLM can wear it, it'd make for Jet'a's new look in Ishgard.
  14. http://www.writtensound.com/index.php Best I could find.
  15. Honestly, I'd just wait for the next batch of wards. SE said they are incoming, might be 3.1, might be sooner. That way you won't need the extra money from selling a small to buy a large (assuming you already have enough to buy a large plot and are planning to use these 60M to get someone to relinquish theirs).
  16. Come bad at me, bro!
  17. RPing bad guys can give less RP but a certainly higher quality of roleplay, trust me. Your character's development is more prominent, more interesting and more meaningful. Easygoing characters actually have an harder time developing and maturing than us bad guys do, because we start from the bottom, and our growing is more evident than theirs (since they start as friendly, mature, social etc. character, any change towards a higher maturity is less evident). I've been RPing bad guys since 2006 since I seem to be... pretty good at it, or anyway, better than I am at RPing social butterflies. My main advice to you is to find yourself a close group of people to RP with, and spend a lot of time with them, ESPECIALLY OOC. OOC bonding here is the key, because people who know you OOC know that your character isn't OOC-bleeding bad feelings at them, while someone who has just met you might think otherwise. Knowing you OOC, these people will make efforts to keep around your character, and eventually firm IC bonds will form, without the need to break character on either end. The second tip is: be creative to be with others. I'll explain it with the example of Kenjii, my character from FFXI. He was a big introvert, rude jerk, with a good side that could only be seen after a while with him (see trop: Jerk with a Heart of Gold). When he initially first met the rest of the group of roleplayers, it was impossible to keep him around. He was annoyed by them and wanted to not deal with them. So what did I do to make it so he'd go out adventuring with them? I had his boss (an NPC under my control) force him to escort those adventurers, threatening to fire him if he wouldn't comply. That's how Kenjii was forced to travel, camp, and live with the others for a while, until he got too involved in the plot and couldn't just walk out of it. Soon enough, I noticed that others' characters came to mine often, even just to talk to him, despite his awful personality, they were actually intrigued by him. And now they are the best of friends (yes, it's crazy, but we still do RP on FFXI). Third and last advice: Don't be just a wallflower. If people don't come to you, RP NPCs talking to you (this is easier to be done with a small group of close friends; NPCs/secondary characters not visible on screen seem difficult to be accepted by Open World RPers for some reason). Tell your story to those present through small bits and hints, and don't spill out all your tragic past on the go. The beauty of bad guys is their rich past, the STUFF that made us the way we are, and you should consider this as a treasure to deliver in very small doses. Personally I like very lengthy plots, and sometimes it took a year for a certain detail of my characters' past to be revealed. Maybe you don't like long time roleplay though, so adjust as you see fit. Just keep in mind, that once all the beans are spilled, your character loses 70% of its Interest Factor. You have to ensure your character becomes interesting through other means (deeds of the present, goals of the future), before you run out of "past secrets points", so to speak. (What does that have to do with wall-flowering, you ask?) Back to the FFXI example: I was not the only "bad guy" in our group of roleplayers. There was another, a chick, that simply stood to the side all the time and waited for people to go to her, only to brush them off quickly with non-sensical quotes that really didn't tell anything about her and only pushed the others away more confused than before about her. I, instead, while keeping my Moronic Jerk attitude IC, did contribute to the plot and actually had my character show some degree of interest in the others as well, making sure each exchange with them to be meaningful, and sometimes forcing my character to go to them, instead of waiting for them to come "click" me (Ex: "Oi. Why are we still here? Did you get us effin' lost?"). In a few weeks, the other "bad guy" RPer was OOCly complaining that Kenjii (my bad guy character) was getting all the attention from the others and "stealing all the girls" (in a non-romantic way, cause my character did not care, but a lot of the female characters seemed much into "changing him", it's a Beauty and the Beast thing I guess?). The reason behind that was that she hadn't really tried to interact with the others, being a wallflower and waiting to be talked to like an NPC, while I did take the initiative. Your OOC powers are immense, and they are a must when RPing a Bad Guy. So again: OOC bonds with who you RP with, use of NPCs to force your character to interact/stay near others, and initiative (no wall-flowering) are the three keys to successfully RP a bad guy. Happy Grumpying!
  18. Cape Riverne! Not sure if they've given it a different name, but that dungeon is clearly a reproduction of Riverne Site A01/B01 from FFXI. Always excited to see FFXI stuff brought back into XIV. The only bummer is that I know at the end of the XIV version of it there won't be Bahamut waiting for me
  19. There is nothing wrong with RPning non-flexible characters with jobs or reasons that'd require them to be around a specific area to respect canon. All you have to do is stick there or have plausible reasons to be moved elsewhere/out of jurisdiction. I'm a bit bummed by how some of these posts seem to imply that it's a mistake and a Bad Idea to RP very local careers or characters. Please try to measure your words and consider that some people who do just that may be reading this thread, and could feel bad to see so many people thinking what they're doing is Wrong and Bad. It was their choice to RP a Sultansworn/Brass Blade/Yellow Jacket/whichever, and it doesn't hurt you in any way should they have reasons to go to other areas. They will always have a reason to explain that, don't you worry. With all that being said, IRL I've never heard someone say "Oh so you do X for a living, why are you here then?". Nobody does a certain job ALL THE TIME. Ironically, to ICly hear "So what do you do here if you are an X?" is a lot less realistic than to hear "I'm a Maelstrom private" in Ul'dah. Anyways, back on topic. Till last month (not anymore now, because she died), I had a Maelstrom that was charged to accompany our group of adventurers which included an ambassador of Limsa Lominsa. This obviously took her to follow them in Ul'dah, Gridania, Coerthas, and other places. So I guess my "justification" is: for work.
  20. I am sorry to all the people that my characters have ICly rejected. I do not think your characters are bad, or ugly, or undeserving of love, I just am really shy and very sensitive to sexual topics. To even see people emoting kissing or caresses cause some internal turmoil and panic in me that I prefer to avoid by simply stepping out of that aspect of Roleplaying. It is never something personal to your person or your OOC self. I have told you that I prefer to have romantic relationships form only after years of friendship and hardship, and this so far has always moved you away from me. I want you to know that it was not an excuse to force you to leave me alone, and I really do mean to eventually let my character fall in love. But much as how it works in real life, I feel the necessity of such bond to be formed with someone I have RPed for at least one year. I understand if your timings are different from my own, but please don't think I said it as an excuse to push you away, it is really the truth. And to all those that have reacted negatively and aggressively to me OOC for rejecting them IC, know that I do not hold anything against you. I am aware that romance is important for a lot of people, and I feel bad for not being able to give others what they want (I actually am very paranoid on what people think of me and if I satisfy them), so I do expect these reactions when I fail at delivering what they want from my character. For these reasons, I am not angry to any of you for getting OOCly mad with me. I'll be sad to see you walk away, but that is really it. Again, please, don't take my rejects as an insult to your character, or worse yet your person. I am just not fit for it, and for that reason I have built all my characters in a way to make it very difficult for them to hook up with others (widows, introverts, jerks, sociopaths, too young, too strict, etc.). It's not you, it's me.
  21. I usually look at the price of food from NPC vendors to get an idea of how much gil is worth, and tend to disregard the Market Board, as the prices there are pretty obviously out of context (as well as housing prices, because it is based on the server's economy, which again is OOC). Poverty, meaning, having difficulty to come by with food for the day, should be seen as having no ways to gain more than in the tens of gil a day. 100 gil a day could be compared to a part-time job, or students job for non-professional, or laborers, or other exploited and underpaid classes. To claim to have thousands of gil makes you a part of the middle classes, and it all goes up from there. As for who should have how much, I tend to filter/disregard adventurers telling me they have millions or even hundreds of thousand of gil. If they are however upper-class members and spend all their days in jobs at work, I do can believe they can have that much. If you instead meet someone who spends all his time adventuring, or jumping from a party to another, without spending their time to work AND claiming to not be covered by some filthy rich parents, then no, he cannot have millions, not on my account. Even if you are a thief or an assassin, you'd need to either work for years or to steal/kill someone Very Important in order to accumulate that much.
  22. I for one can say to have been one of the proud lamenters who have also tried to bring interest to other areas. The Classroom-type RP mini-events did have a moderate success for as long as I personally worked to attend and support every class being held. Unfortunately, when I decided it was time to back off and see if the trend would stay afloat on its own, it didn't work too well. Teachers got demotivated by the lack of students showing up (guess people like to RP characters who don't need to learn anything, eh? *eyeroll* Just teasing!), or never showed up to the classes they scheduled entirely, discouraging students in turn. All in all, I did thoroughly enjoy the classroom roleplays, I still think it's a great way to make class guilds popular and also to force people to form bonds with strangers (that's what schools do IRL as well, after all. Sit 5 hours a day, 40 hours a week with the same group of people and bonds, whether they're bad or good, WILL form). Maybe I'll attempt to bring it back when I'm not so superbusy devoting all my RP hours and RP days to TalesofHydaelyn. With all that being said, I still avoid the Quicksands with passion. I have nothing against those who go there (and how could I? I have no idea who they are!), but the few times I've been there I seemed to always have horrible luck and only manage to meet people who'd hit on me IC and get disappointed with me OOC when I'd reject them (except that one time I had a few-seconds long conversation with Aya as Jet'a. I treasure that moment!), so I opted with the theory that my character is just too hawt to have non-romance-centered exchanges there. For the past two years my group and I have had all sorts of different hangouts spots, usually lasting about a month each because we do RP travelling and moving home as kind of a big deal which requires lots of thought and preparation (funds, supplies, clothes fitting the climate, etc.), unless emergencies forced us to move out quickly (I guess we've been watching too much The Walking Dead!). I don't remember them all, but here's what we've been using: 2013: August/September: The Hermit's Hovel, Limsa Lominsa (Mizzenmast) October: Summerford Farms November: Red Rooster Stead, Swiftperch December: Moraby Drydocks 2014 January: Limsa Lominsa (Mizzenmast) (This is when we got the airship pass at last) February: Gridania (the Roost) March: Ul'dah (the Hourglass) April: Vesper Bay (a week), Camp Drybone May: Hawthorne's Hut, Little Solace June: Buscarron's Druthers July: Vesper Bay (a week), Highbridge August: Little Ala Mhigo > Quarrymill > Little Ala Mhigo September: Vesper Bay (a week), Fallgourd Float October: Vesper Bay (a few days), The Gray Fleet (a week) November: Costa del Sol December: Camp Tranquil 2015 January: Forgotten Springs February: Wineport, Camp Bronze Lake March: Church of Saint Andama Landama, Coerthas April: Aleport (a couple days), Gridania (the Roost) (a week), Mor Dhona May: Vesper Bay, Althaea's Orphanage (Mist) (current)
  23. Doubt it's going to be anything to be excited for, honestly.
  24. Jet'a as a kid! D'awwww. (I realized too late that I didn't pick the right eye color)
