I've already done this with one of my characters. Basically, the person RPing their wife and I decided to re-roll into new concepts after we felt we couldn't develop the characters any further (or rather, we didn't feel inspired to). They were both adventuring sorts and my character in particular saved up a bunch of money via working as an alchemist. So they sold their house, used the money to build/purchase an airship, and now they're traveling the world off-screen. We figured it was a nice, non-dramatic way to gently push our characters onto a retirement bus.

I highly doubt it'd be a playable race. Their facial features are too muddled and not distinct enough. There'd be way too little customization... Unless they rushed and put in a kind of low-res model for now, only to update them later? But that'd just be a waste of resources. It's most probable that it's a beast tribe.

Fixing a character that's hard to swallow
Kismet replied to Tahla'ra Molkot's topic in Character Workshop
I somewhat agree with Firefly in perhaps rerolling as a new concept, but my addendum to their suggestion is that instead of specifically killing the character (which I know is too harsh for some), you could just send them off on a never-ending adventure or w/e. Come up with a reason for them to go away and not need to be mentioned again, basically. That's what I did with my character Astrid once I felt I couldn't develop her anymore. I won't go so far as to say you have/need to do this, but since I did something similar (albeit for different reasons), I just figured I'd offer my two cents. I do actually admire you for owning up to these faults at all, since I've met people in the past who had almost the exact same issues with their characters, but refused to acknowledge all constructive criticism given from multiple parties. Sometimes mere acceptance is the first step on the road to success. I wish you luck no matter what you choose! -
OP... At the end of the day, no matter what you decide to do? Write it well. Do that and the people who actually matter to you and are worth caring about? They won't be too concerned with the specifics. I ensure you that's what the majority of folks here encourage.

^ This. I continue to find it hard to understand why people get so hung up on specific titles when with just a little imagination and putting some creative flair on your emotes, you can accomplish much of the same style/aesthetic and similar abilities. This is a large part of the reason I scrapped the character concept I used to roll with that was a White Mage. Because once I devoured all of the lore and mechanics about the job... I didn't see what would it offer me in terms of RP other than highlighting myself as a special snowflake. While simply being a Conjurer, you're still a healer. You can still save people's lives. You can still use big, bright, sparkly magic. It's not really that big of a deal if you don't specifically have access to Holy or Benediction or w/e. And nothing's stopping you from RPing that your Conjurer can use an ability that rejuvenates their allies and damages the enemy at the same time (something similar in nature to Assize). Just, y'know... don't refer to it specifically by name and you're probably good.

My choice was for a reason that's a lot more simplistic... I have 4 characters and I don't really consider any of them my "main", so I picked Other to account for all of them. (That and 2 of the 4 are several things on the list.)

Is RP just a way for people to hook up these days?
Kismet replied to Averis's topic in RP Discussion
Quoted for emphasis. This is pretty much what I would've said. 99% of the "ERP escapades" I've heard about have been just that... things I've heard about second, third, fourth-hand. Maybe every now and again I stumble across a steamy makeout session or something resembling lead up to foreplay or w/e. But for the most part, I don't really encounter that stuff in person because the places and people I go to for my RP are heavily aligned with my interests. That's not to say anyone's claiming the OP or anyone else is deliberately seeking these things out. I'm well-aware that I could just have fantastic luck. But if you surround yourself with what and whom you are comfortable with and do want to see, anything else you stumble across should be kind of a non-issue. There's little to no reason to care, honestly. -
I'm personally very happy we're getting them. (The job potions in particular, I don't care about the quest skipping stuff.) I don't wanna have to bust my ass boring myself to death every single time I decide I want a particular job's glamour.

Ellmida and Kerrath already beat me to half of what I would've said, so I won't reiterate those points. Instead, I'm going to touch on something else. My main question after reading the whole thing is... Why? What do you feel you'd specifically be achieving with this character concept that you'd be unable to do without all of the Voidsent headcanon? If the reason isn't much more robust than "I really liked Parasyte and wanted to do something equally cool in the same vein", that's fine and you're welcome to it... but I'd be worried about a potential lack of depth. Whenever I see stuff like this, I'm always more curious about the motivations behind the decisions rather than the specifics of what they consist of. Perhaps you have a partner you'd be engaging in this with who shares your though process, so you could get it off the ground and it'd allow you both to explore something you couldn't otherwise. That's swell. However, if you were planning on engaging randoms with this... it might be a hard pill for most to swallow. All that being said, I do have a fondness for Blue/Orange Morality in characters. It's one of my favorite components of anything Lovecraftian. And the almost nonchalant gruesomeness of the body snatching process, while perhaps somewhat unnecessary, gives me some slight Junji Ito vibes which could be fun to explore in the FF14 setting. (It wouldn't even be entirely out of place, either. Given things like Edda and Avere's lovely little story...) With the right partner and/or group, maybe you've got the start of something worth refining and expanding upon here.

If SE was to designate an RP server, would you move?
Kismet replied to ExAtomos's topic in RP Discussion
I don't have a large presence in Balmung's community and/or deep ties with large amounts of people here... So I would move if and ONLY if: most of my immediate friends were also moving, I got to keep 100% of my assets, and the move itself was free. If even one of those things was not included in the package, it'd be a deal breaker for me. -
It ain't easy bein' cheesy, but... I'm mostly just excited about getting to experience that sparkly "wow, everything is new and amazing!" time with my friends. My best memories of HW were of that very first month. I really had a blast with my FC mates at the time. I'm running with a different crew now, but they're people I know I can trust and I'm looking forward to creating even better memories with them. Some may call it naive to ride off the high of a honeymoon phase, but if I'm enjoying it with my buddies, that's good enough for me. Secondarily? New lore, exploring new zones, new jobs, refined combat, new fashion, tons of RP opportunities... Can't wait for everything!

Bamboozled in Balmung: Tonsa' questions about creating my first Xaela.
Kismet replied to Mao's topic in Character Workshop
I'll just be playing to the chorus here, but I'm also in the process of creating my own tribe and just wanted to give my own perspective. In addition to all of the reasons and resources people have already given above, I personally just really enjoy world building and character creation! What I get out of the process is the sheer enjoyment of researching various cultures to pick and choose influences from, to blend them together in a neat way. Even if I don't actually use most of what I read/watch about, simply learning about things I had no idea of previously is part of the adventure. It can lead to tons of potentially interesting RP, so definitely don't shy away from making something personalized and unique. -
Why do our characters close their eyes while casting spells?
Kismet replied to Rosanna Foxfire's topic in Lore Discussion
For arcanists/summoners in particular, I don't think they're "shielding their eyes". Their stance is just for aesthetic. Besides, the animations for summoning and casting Ruin 3 are done with their eyes open for the entire process. As for everyone else? Just concentration. I wouldn't overthink it. -
I wouldn't overly concern myself with it. Nobody should be getting on your case for having pink, blue, etc. hair color. It's a fantasy game. As long as you don't have some really unnecessarily trite IC reasoning for why their hair is that color, you should be fine.

I'd personally recommend watching Brandon Sanderson's lecture on world building. He does a good job of easily breaking down ways to make a world feel... well, like an actual world. This lecture is just one part of an entire series meant for writing fiction (he also has stuff on creating magic systems and etc), but the information could easily also apply to other mediums. v98Zy_hP5TI

What is "the far edge of fate" supposed to mean?
Kismet replied to Kallera's topic in FFXIV Discussion
You also need to consider that chances are the name of the patch isn't even the same in other languages, anyway... I've noticed that we tend to get titles that lean towards abstract/vague, whereas the Japanese titles have been more specific (i.e. "Stormblood" vs. "Liberators of the Crimson Lotus"). -
What is "the far edge of fate" supposed to mean?
Kismet replied to Kallera's topic in FFXIV Discussion
Personally? I think you're putting way too much thought into it. Assign whatever meaning you want, lol. -
This was my original theory from earlier in the thread, so it seems like I was definitely in the ballpark... Now I just have to hope it's not also some super special locked off thing like I predicted. Otherwise, I'm going to have a really hard time justifying how the heck my character is supposed to mentor someone else in that art. (That or we may end up needing to ditch the idea almost entirely.) Pretty disappointed. The healer set is almost somewhat tolerable, but I don't really dig the way the top has that longer section in the front. Meanwhile, the caster set is just awful to me. And I don't only mean the butt window. If all of the runners-up get implemented as well, I'll be happy. Because I was much fonder of some of those entries.

The official soundtrack came out yesterday and I personally adore the rearrangements of many of the tracks they did. They're ridiculously pretty. IJ1DVqk4zLY

I would've been interested in this because I have a plot involving my Raen I'd love to launch once Stormblood comes out (it'd involve her traveling around Othard in order to deal with ghosts of the past she initially came to Eorzea to escape from). However, a whole FC dedicated to this is kind of as much of a bummer for me as it is for others. For comparison's sake, I'd say that a large part of the reason the Ala Mhigan Resistance is so successful and has continued to last as long as it has is because it's a LS. The subject matter of "resistance RP" has a tendency to get stale quicker than other RP guild themes, so having a LS as opposed to an FC promotes a small, manageable dosage of this. I understand the allure of a house as a base of operations versus an apartment room or something, truly. Though, I believe that with good leadership and strong, consistent plot incentives... you won't need that to thrive. I also understand that one doesn't need to be in an FC to engage in activities with them. But, without really getting into it... let's just say that for some of us, that's much easier said than done. Just thought I'd put all of that out there for something to consider.

I typically don't do pre-established romantic relationships because watching that stuff develop organically over time is genuinely fun for me. But connections for family, friends, enemies, work, etc.? It's a great way to kickstart RP and can be really rewarding, provided the people you're doing it with are respectful and have a good understanding of how you operate (or are willing to learn).

If it turns out that RDM gets locked behind a Special Snowflake Wall like BLM/WHM, I have a guess that the lore could possibly be something like... a separate sect of casters during the time of the War of Magi tried to combine the two warring disciplines and ending up creating something that was eventually refined into Red Magic, only to be shunned and/or forgotten due to [insert conflict here]. If the job is written in such a way that its more accessible to the average adventurer, however? I'd put my money on Sharlayan like others have proposed. (Or maybe we're all wrong and it's from some place we'd never even expect! I don't freakin' know.)

Figured I'd post my own two favorite songs from the Nier: Automata OST! Absolutely gorgeous vocals from both singers. It's just as good as the first game's soundtrack. I'm super pleased. BzGy5rlrBzc ubMf__iB8iI

I will not let my legacy die with me....(background check)
Kismet replied to Yunas13's topic in Character Workshop
I think above all else... I'm confused? What exactly is the intention here? Is this character/backstory actually meant for RP? Or are you looking for feedback for some fanfic that you just modeled your character after?
