Laellia Posted September 2, 2013 Share #651 Posted September 2, 2013 I don't think anyone believes everything will be magically solved Wednesday, but it's a scheduled fix, and a little optimism that things will at least be semi-functional after that isn't that bad a thing to look to. 1 Link to comment
Dravus Posted September 3, 2013 Share #652 Posted September 3, 2013 I've yet to play an MMO that didn't have issues that lingered for a few months after the initial launch. So long as those issues don't remain dire for weeks on end and there's just the occassional problem to deal with I'll be very understand and content. GW2 and WoW are both due to have new content patches out rather soon so I imagine the strain on FFXIV's servers will subside a bit when the infamous content locusts and MMO hoppers rush to either game. I'd also say that not being able to log into the game at all for days (I've managed to log in a grand total of twice since early access and was only able to play in phase 4 for the last half of the second day) is pretty serious. It's certainly one of if not the worst issue I've seen in an MMO launch. Queues I can deal with. Occasional bugs I can deal with. Something like this, that keeps you from playing at all? Yeah, no. Fingers crossed that these server upgrades work. Link to comment
Lren Posted September 3, 2013 Share #654 Posted September 3, 2013 Crashed during the first 8 man boss fight... God, I feel horrible. Team was doing pretty decent and then my game decided to crash. Of course, can't get back in a timely manner. Bleh > Link to comment
Kyatai Posted September 3, 2013 Share #655 Posted September 3, 2013 haha feel ya, Lren. Sat in the '1017 dance' for an hour, finally get in... for mayyyyybe 5 min... then kicked again. I swear... I'll never get my dungeons unlocked or quests done. Link to comment

I mean, sure, we don't have an abundance of bugs, and once you log in the game generally works, but how many paying customers have been completely unable to use the product they paid for since launch?" That reflects really poorly on Square Enix as a company. The free 7 days extra will hopefully mitigate some of that, but they'll never really live this down (just like Blizzard never really lived down WoW's launch or Funcom never really lived down Anarchy Online's launch). People will continue to play, but some will just outright quit instead of wait for things to get better, and there are always those players who never forget. The worst part is how players are encouraged to essentially be assholes and stay logged in just so they can avoid the pain of being locked out of the game. The last two days I just said "fuck it" and joined that crowd in staying logged in overnight just so I could avoid playing with Error 1017 ever again. Link to comment

The last two days I just said "fuck it" and joined that crowd in staying logged in overnight just so I could avoid playing with Error 1017 ever again. Noooo! You allowed the darkness to engulf your heart! I've had a bit of trouble logging in, but it has not been horrible as I just avoid peak hours. Log in before 10am pst or after 6pm pst. Because you are literally not getting in anytime during those hours. Usually it takes me 10mins to get in, on the weekends it took me 20-30mins to get in. I work and go to school during the peak hours and on my days off I just run errands during those hours as well. It's bad, but there are definitely ways to work around it, well if you live on the west coast as I am sure the hours are much more complicated on the east. I think I felt them literally open up the servers at 6:50pm pst yesterday. I logged in at that time, and then immediately saw four people from my FC log in, back to back, and then 3 or 4 people from the OOC RP Dungeon LS I am in all said they just got in as well. So I would probably jot down that time and see how that works out with your schedule. Since official launch after they fixed the 90k errors and such I have only lost connection once the entire time. And I have been squeezing about 4hours of play time in a day. I just hope they offer free character transfers for a limited time as to get people from the current servers to move over to the new servers. Link to comment
Naunet Posted September 3, 2013 Share #658 Posted September 3, 2013 Log in before 10am pst or after 6pm pst. The past couple days, I've been waking up at around 8am CST (that's 6am PST) and trying for at least an hour to log in. All I've gotten for my efforts are a slew of 1017s, so... yea, even getting up early, you're more likely than not not gonna get in. Link to comment
Amyr Mythweaver Posted September 3, 2013 Share #659 Posted September 3, 2013 My concern at this point is that the fix tomorrow will be a batch of new worlds to play on and not the unlocking of the already full worlds, this does not effect me directly I count myself lucky I already have a character on Balmung but I feel for all of those who want to join Gilgamesh or Balmung and cannot. Here is hoping everything gets fixed but honestly I would settle for a halfway decent fix that lets everyone play. Link to comment

All I've gotten for my efforts are a slew of 1017s, so... yea, even getting up early, you're more likely than not not gonna get in. Yeah, it isn't such an easy solution as just waking up early. I usually log on about 9-10AM here - In the UK, mind, I have no idea how early that is where you are though - And I still get a queue time. Two or three hours later and you're being hit with 1017s. I never really had these issues before Monday, though - I only struggled to get past the 1017 errors if I logged on after 7pm, and I assume just about everyone is awake at that point, so... If they're not letting more people in to the server, and the server wasn't this busy (to my knowledge) over the weekend, does that mean they're shrivelling up or something? Or are we just dealing with more AFKers by this point? Well, at the very least we can just sit and hope for the best. I wouldn't mind a more stable Coerthas where I can actually hit the dragon instead of watching my chocobo peck at invisible dragon butt. And then a FATE spawns on my face and I get crushed by an invisible Cyclops. ...And following this, a sliding chocobo train swoops in to save the day! Yeah...That's kind of a minor issue and probably on my end, but I'm allowed to rant here, right? I really feel bad for the people who can't get on to the server they want to - I know that feeling of isolation despite being in an MMO. It'd be a huge boot to the face if they have to actually pay to transfer to the server they wanted to play on in the first place, as well, so I do hope they offer free transfers once people jump ship and decide they don't actually enjoy FFXIV as much as they'd hoped. Just gotta wake up at a certain time and log in and get no problems. I generally log in between 7-9AM EST and work I spend 5-11 minutes trying to get in. I will not lie.. I do go back to bed and nap some more or do some things for a FEW hours.. being one of those pricks.. But otherwise I'm online being active and log off when I'm going to bed.. Which helps gives someone else a spot. Its really knowing the best time to login that gets you in without any real problems. Link to comment
Levi Druthers Posted September 4, 2013 Share #662 Posted September 4, 2013 30 minutes to log in tonight, in game for five minutes, kicked out by 90k, can't log in due to 3102, then game crash with a 2002. Yeah, I think I'm done trying tonight. Happened to me about 4pm or so. Boo on 90k Link to comment

Dravus Posted September 4, 2013 Share #666 Posted September 4, 2013 I'm off to catch a coach and visit my mother and sister in a couple of hours, so by the time the servers are back online I won't be able to get on immediately. I do hope there aren't any major problems and the rest of you can play in peace, though! By the time I return I hope I will be able to create additional characters on Balmung. There's a fair few alterations I want to make to Theodric in terms of his appearance, class and possibly his surname so starting from scratch will be much easier - especially now that I've got a better grasp of the game's mechanics! Quuyn Posted September 4, 2013 Share #667 Posted September 4, 2013 I didn't want to post a new thread, cause I'm awkward like that, buuuuuut. There's a 1027mb patch that was released about an hour ago. So people MIGHT wana go download that if you plan on staying up for the maintenance to end! ...Also this is the 666th post in this thread, and it's about a patch. ...Half life 3 Confirmed Link to comment

Moondoggie Posted September 4, 2013 Share #672 Posted September 4, 2013 Well from what they are saying still going to have severe restrictions on logins so no change at all. Only thing they have done is create more pools for the duty finder so it doesn't crash the server but that also means it'll take much longer to find groups because the pools are smaller. Seems they are giving everyone an extra weeks subscription as compensation though so it's something even if we hit the same walls when everyone logs in. Just hope we actually get to use that week. Or you could see it from a cup half-full perspective and realize that, even if there are problems (and there will be. There always will be one problem or another), they have put a lot of their resources toward fixing them. In this particular instance, character creation has been opened up again. That is a Very Good Thing™ and a big step in the right direction. Link to comment

Temporary restrictions so they can monitor the situation. -Login Restrictions In the time period just after maintenance has completed, we predict a rush of characters logging in simultaneously. In order to prevent any technical difficulties due to this login rush, we will be temporarily placing severe login restrictions. These login restrictions may occur frequently, lasting from a few minutes to ten minutes; however, restrictions will be lifted in a gradual manner as login status is carefully monitored. We ask for your patience and understanding in this matter. Furthermore, as a result of the countermeasures taken to alleviate stress on the Duty Finder servers, we expect to be able to increase the number of players able to login simultaneously; however, if those login numbers still surpass the maximum number of possible logins in the various Worlds, please be aware that we will continue to implement login restrictions. -Regarding Limits on New Character Creation As a result of this maintenance, it is now possible to accommodate an increased number of simultaneous logins in the various Worlds; therefore, we have now lifted the New Character Creation restrictions in the majority of Worlds in which restrictions were in effect. New players who are just starting a game or those who would simply like to create a new character can do so by finding a World which has had the restrictions lifted, and creating a character there. Please note that there is a tendency for characters to become concentrated in certain Worlds, causing login numbers to jump up in those particular Worlds. In order to create a population balance between Worlds, we will continue to be implementing New Character Creation restrictions in overly congested Worlds. We will monitor the situation, and in the event restrictions may be lifted, follow-up news posts will be posted. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and ask for your patience and understanding. -Addition of New Worlds With this maintenance, preparation for the addition of new Worlds has been completed. Although it is possible to add several new Worlds due to load balancing on servers, an increased number of players able to login simultaneously to various Worlds, and New Character Creation being possible again on various Worlds as a result of this maintenance, we will only be adding a minimal number of Worlds at this time directly after maintenance. At this time, the following new Worlds have been added. *Japan Data Center -Pandemonium *North American/European data center -Famfrit/Lich (Europe-recommended World) Please note that, after a new World opens, we predict players will be concentrated in that specific World. In order to create a population balance, please be aware that we will be implementing New Character Creation restrictions or login restrictions in overly congested Worlds. We will continue with the addition of new Worlds as we monitor the login situation and public opinion in real time, and updates of any new Worlds will be posted. Link to comment
