Some servers can be found through Discords discover-servers type feature, but it does still lay behind the whole, you'd have to know to go and look there type of deal. It certainly wont be the same as googling "FFXIV Roleplaying" and getting to this site. It might come more naturally to look there for the younger generations. I hope that as a community we can find ways to help people who are new to the hobby despite missing this site as an anchor point.

Hey there - I am hoping this might ping you. I'm in the process of trying to find all of the various guides with the intent to save them in a Google Docs, since the RPC is shutting down for good soon. Do you have a backup of this guide already? If not, then you may wish to back it up before the 1st of september.

Provided it would be in a weekend and not start too late, I'd love to pop by and reminiscence the good old days I don't know if a tonne would show, but I could always spread the word to my own friends if you wind up putting down a date.

If you are looking for stories, I think you should take a gander at tumblr and maybe also pillowfort.social (The latter is lesser used). A lot of the people I see writing stories post their stuff on individual tumblrs; though I can't really name any as a starting point. Tumblr does offer some options for interacting and I think some still also RP on it. There may also be some discords out there that focus on story-style RP, so it might be worth asking around whenever you find anything that seems to look like what you are looking for. It's not exactly the smoothest or easiest starting point, but it's somewhere! Tumblr has a large portion of the RP community active on it. You will definitely stumble over some LFRP posts and such there too so maybe you'll find someone who's interested in the same thing, you never know.

Official Forum Thread (2011) So this has since been expanded on a little bit through the quests that Skae mentioned. The Hilda quest is likely what the "Future/Quests events" referred to. I do not quite remember where, if it's an official source like the Lore Panels or somewhere else, but I believe it has been phrased that the more different the races are, the more difficult it would be for a couple of said combination to have a child. This is also seen by the fact that half-breeds within each race's clans are a fairly common sight among NPC's, especially with seeker/keeper miqo'te's (so you may have a child NPC that presents with sharp teeth - a keeper trait, and slitted eyes, a seeker trait). Through this logic I can only guestimate that typical racial features would be distributed at random with any half-breed child, so that would be up to you. So the answer is yes, you can, but it would be very rare and I would encourage you to consider this when as you progress through roleplay; from having problems with it, all the way through to the potential stigma there may be from other inhabitants of hydaelyn that a mixed couple has managed to produce such a child. Personally I don't think a roegadyn and a viera would have as many problems as e.g a roegadyn and a miqo'te would, but both combinations would be rare still regardless. I also think when it comes to things like this, it's all about how you integrate it into your RP and less so important that the lore says it's improbable.

The Roleplay Calendar (You may encounter it in bot-form in various Discords, too) includes events from all of Crystal. But because Balmung has been the primary "unofficial" RP server for many years, a lot of the events that happen are on Balmung. The RP community in FFXIV is massive. You can't accurately pin down a feel or attitude for neither Balmung nor Mateus because they are so big; there's too many FC's and too many people to have any semblance of a unified overarching truth. You will find that people can tell you both good and bad stories of both servers. There are inclusive groups and events on both servers. A lot of the people who currently play on Mateus also used to play on Balmung, but simply opted to switch once the momentum was there pre-world visit. Functionally speaking, the main thing that is dependent on your choice of server is which FC you want to belong to. You may want to browse the RP Index for themes and tendencies or potential points of applications before you decide. Some themes are stronger and more abundant on one server and less so on another; for example, tribal guilds (more predominant on Mateus). Though I expect/suspect that in the future, Free Companies will be lifted from being bound to a specific server; Square Enix is definitely working towards uniting all of us as much as possible. Because of World Visit and the Cross World Linkshells, this is an excellent time to join FFXIV and it's RPing community. I hope you end up being happy with your choice regardless!

There's bound to be some tips and tricks here and there that might help you. I would recommend looking into groups and discords to start with, find yourself a home that can support you on your levelling journey

The Quicksand on both Mateus and Balmung are hot-spots for random-RP and walk ups, so it may be a good place for you to start out- you may also be able to watch other people's RP which can maybe help inspire you? All depending on what is going on of course. People do sometimes roleplay in the other city-states but as far as I can tell it's not as frequent & may be more in a pre-arranged meet-up nature. I would also recommend hitting up some events when they start up after the shb-launch "grace period" that many events have placed on themselves. The naming conventions for Hrothgar were confirmed to be delayed until post-shb launch, as per the official forum- so it'll be a little while yet You can always just go with a placeholder name that could potentially become a nickname in conjunction with a name that follows the naming convention later on. As for where to go, we have server visiting now- so anywhere in the Crystal Datacenter will let you be able to world-visit Balmung. Both Balmung and Mateus have massive communities when it comes to RP FC's, and Zalera is also up-and-coming on this front. Hope you find a good place and welcome (back)!
