  1. Welcome back to the stage of history! 8-) I wondered where you'd headed off to. Glad to see you made it back, man!
  2. I like a lot of the GG music myself honestly (The SSH remix of Holy Orders is pretty hype IMO too, but in a different way). I will probably use Holy Orders as a 'theme song' once I (finally) get around to writing Martiallais' wiki. Linked for epic and on-topic-ness below! IAbVGnwgT6E
  3. Work's almost over and I'm getting pumped for the DrowBro (Duskwight) PvE competition with my buddy Naxal this weekend. M3Jredj3n7k
  4. Would that be all that bad, though, or unmanageable? Technically Dragoons already do the same thing. Taking in the power of the enemy to defeat the enemy. Same could possibly be said for Voidspawn-empowerment! It'd take some adjustment, I'm sure, but I think Martiallais would be able to cleave to this new reveals and still remain the character you imagine them as. And if it doesn't work? Make something up! "Hey, I'm a Umbral Blade. We're like the Dark Knights, but splintered off when they started delving into the powers of the Void. So, while we are similar... we are not the same." (Totally wanted to use "Nightblade", before remembering there's two FCs who use that as a name. ) Given that Dragoons are sanctioned by the See and fight for/protect Ishgard if Dark Knights did the same while turning that power -against- the corrupt (but likely appearing good) officials/nobles/etc it would drive the wedge in that much harder IMO. He's an Ishgardian and while (behind closed doors) he doesn't agree with everything the See does and the people leading it, taking the power of dragons and turning it against his own people would pretty much be jumping over the line to heretic-land. Doable but not quite what I had in mind. I'd roll with it somehow, agreed but it would definitely take the character down a different path. It would be more 'any means necessary' than 'do the right thing at personal cost' if that makes sense? Also Nightblades are from Elder Scrolls, too. I think both guilds have a space in their names while the ES class doesn't.
  5. Fortunately/unfortunately, depending on your view, there isn't a whole lot of the very solid/specific lore on any of the races. Most of what we're given is some broad brush strokes of lore then things can be taken from context in the game world itself. As for a 'ranger' sort of character, given the makeup of Gridania (if you'd like to be from there) it would fit well with either a Miqo'te or an Elezen! Elezen are a little more rare to see ingame (by and large) but there are plenty of Miqo'te roleplayers who are in monogamous relationships so I wouldn't let that stop you either. Not all Miqo'te are tribal, which is what a lot of the lore focuses on. Many of them (meaning most roleplayers/adventuring sorts) can be found within cities having adapted to that life as well. So yeah! Welcome but don't feel boxed in by what you've read. There are lots (and I mean a LOT) of spins to put on what we're given without falling into 'special snowflake' territory. Go with what's fun and calls to you.
  6. Zarek's fairly safe from any kind of lore bombs I can think of...unless they say something along the lines of only Highlanders can open chakra/become monks or Highlander/Midlanders could never have children. With Martiallais, there's a few possibilities like maybe if they said that Duskwights don't live in Ishgard (which would be contrary to some other things they've said) or if Dark Knights are actually (as Steel mentioned) empowered by Voidspawn or, even worse, dragons. But yeah, I think I can roll with whatever they might drop on me one way or another.
  7. Bumping this for the first post update. Lots of good info and a first date listed! Thanks again Flynt
  8. My Elezen Ishgardian is actually going to become my dark knight. Is it a little like Batman? Sure, somewhat. But you could compare it to Zorro or any other number of popular references too. Really where the concept starts and how things go once RP and stories take off can be leagues apart. In the end, he justifies it (and will be attempting to hide it because of HONOOOOOR and not bringing shame/death/etc upon his family) because of experiences with people in his life getting taken advantage of by those in power.
  9. Zarek's 'powers' come from inheriting/learning it combined with living life. Most people tend to overlook that for the 'average' person life can be fairly dangerous even within the walls of the city states. His mother (a highlander) while not a monk of Rhalgr knew enough to teach some of the basic forms and such (little lore bending plus 'daww' moments of mother + son training together) to him early on in life. She was also a Brass Blade so I like to think that before she died she passed on tidbits about how to take care of oneself in Ul'dah. Due to his father's connections and work for the Syndicate, a buddy of his kind of halfheartedly started to look after the then parentless Zarek and thus got him started in a life of 'organized crime' so to speak. Bouncing, throwing fights, collecting money...all those plus managing to live through everything else that happens on back streets in Ul'dah is what gave Zarek his powers.
  10. Honestly with Zarek, I wanted someone who (much like some of the comic book/fantasy characters I enjoy) was equipped with the abilities that let him move between 'tiers' (as I've labeled them in my mind). Someone who might be able to throw down in a street fight but also could fight against the crazy fantastical creatures that live in the game world. It's something I usually end up doing in every setting honestly. Given my love for martial arts when the classes and their lore came out, something about pugilist (which was originally given to us as a bruiser for the Platinum Mirage) becoming monk just grabbed me and gave my concept (Red Bull) wings. Add in a hefty dose of inspiration from watching the various benders in action (go go Avatar) and voila. When he does use those sorts of abilities Zarek always has some kind of wind flavoring to go with them though it's been rare as (up till recently) he hasn't had anyone to actually show him how to unlock all that awesome chakra and do that on a regular basis...which means I get to play with the ole hidden power trope now and then. Stir it all together in a blender and out popped Zarek the guy from Ul'dah who likes to fight and can but still is the underdog now and then.
  11. Welcome back to the stage of history! Seriously, though I'd second getting involved and throwing yourself into a Linkshell or three to maybe help not just with general chit chat but answering questions on things that have changes and such as well. That and here with all of us forum crazies, of course.
  12. Tossing my name in the hat since things always seem to come up on Saturday nights for me. This Sunday should work just fine for getting Zarek's fight on again. 8-)
  13. We absolutely under no circumstance will we ever accept an Au Ra character into this linkshell! (Just kidding, haha! A good deal of us are foaming at the mouth waiting for 3.0 to make / fantasia into Au Ra ourselves! Just hit us up whenever you'd like an invite!) Thaaaaaaanks Funny enough, I actually think I saw you ingame yesterday/last night maybe? I was on my Elezen and had to stop and squint because the name looked familiar.
  14. I keep crossing paths with you ingame while you're traveling this road, rest assured once I have Martiallais set up and ready I'll be hitting you up for RP and possibly joining you on the patrol route! 8-)
  15. I might be a little early on this but will you be accepting Au Ra characters into the LS as well? I've been poking and planning about with mine and he's shaping up to be (unless some lore bomb explodes the concept somehow) something of a smuggler/scout/thief.
  16. She's a Ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-CHERRYBOMB! Great name choice and it makes me sing the chorus everytime I see your posts. So thanks!
  17. I actually have pondered this very same thing myself and I'll be rolling an Au Ra. I had the same issue with my Hyur initially and when I made a Miqo'te too. But I consider myself the sort to over-worry/concern myself with that kinda thing I guess? I'm a decent writer/roleplayer (so I'm told) so I'm not sure if that quite makes me smug/hipser or just someone who worries about perceptions too much.
  18. Just wanted to update that I'm finally getting things written for two character wikis....it's a step in the right direction for me!
  19. Just want to echo everyone else and say that while it was a bit long (as expected), I enjoyed seeing and hearing everyone. There was a lot of good, positive groundwork laid and I hope we keep moving forward with all the great ideas!
  20. I'm so game for this (obviously)! 8-) Flynt, thanks again for starting up the thread!
  21. THOSE EYES. Don't get me wrong I think the whole piece is awesome as you know but yeah...definitely my favorite part.
  22. Aly's been open an open and friendly face since I joined this community right before 2.0 started. I'm glad to see you're still about as we head into 3.0!
  23. As some people may have noticed already, Alueaux Dunant has been so kind to run some mini events within Coerthas, what he plans to continue for a while I believe ! Doh, do you know if there's any info on these? I must've missed them somewhere but would definitely like to attend! He simply asks whoever is online in the LS, that said, if you grab him online, and give him a whisper, I'm about 100% sure he is happy enough to include you asap! Very cool. Thanks for the heads up! I'll keep an eye out when I'm on Martiallais.
  24. I'll be making my Au Ra alt a ninja. My fantasia actually was used to go from Miqo to Elezen. 8-)
  25. Pretty sure my standard ones have been listed: -Blood Knights -Hidden Power -Jerkass (usually w/heart of gold) -Gray & Gray Morality
