  1. Insofar as the Warrior of Light that is referred to in quest after yest, yes, that person is the only Warrior of Light. Are there other Warriors of Light? Like I said, yes, there were and possibly are. Whether or not they came back from the Calamity, I couldn't tell you - it's not clear. Having the Echo seems to be a prerequisite of being the titular Warrior of Light, but there are plenty of people with the Echo who never directly interact with Hydaelyn (Ysayle comes to mind). They aren't Warriors of Light. Some of them have no idea where their powers come from, and they would disagree that they were "Chosen of Hydaelyn," if they even knew what "Hydaelyn" was. They were clearly people with the Echo, but I never got the impression that they were actually other Warriors of Light, as it were, since the meaning of that term seems to have morphed between the end of 1.0 and the beginning of 3.0. Or they're just adventurers? We've already seen people without the Echo take part in Primal battles. Hell, before the Warrior of Light showed up, normal folk were the only option for taking down Primals before they ravaged the land. I've never seen anything to indicate that the only people we take with us are other Warriors of Light. The quest texts are generally the same - go get your best "allies" and bring them to fight with you. Well, the Warrior of Light is perhaps surprisingly short on Echo-bearing allies, so it stands to reason that the vast majority of people helping us out don't actually have it. It is, after all, rare? I'll give you that the MSQ does a very poor job of communicating that the other Warriors of Light existed...but it's always come across to me as a deliberate choice on the part of the devs to emphasize that your character in particular is the Warrior of Light, in the singular. The super special main protagonist, if you will. I agree that you can probably pretty easily claim to be a Scion - hell, I know of at least one player character that is one, and no one bats an eyelid at it (although it's not like she has a banner she carries around with her advertising her status). I don't agree that it would be easy to get people to accept someone using the label "Warrior of Light," even if you were trying to indicate you were one of many. Which doesn't mean that you can't play it @gayprotagonist. You can absolutely play that angle if that's what you want to do. What you will need to do, though, is find a group of players willing to accept that story and play it with you. That is ultimately the main limitation. The idea you have isn't going to be accepted by every, or even most, players. It's kind of a niche thing, from what I've seen, anyway.
  2. The main issue you're going to run into is that the MSQ makes it clear that there is only one WoL. Now, as far as I remember, there were Warriors of Light in 1.0...they were the adventurers who remained on the fields of Carteneau to protect Louisoix. If I'm not mistaken, they vanished in the aftermath and no one remembers what they looked like. So, it would be possible to play one of those Warriors of Light. But the Warrior of Light is a singular person, the main character in the story. And...that would be a very hard sell, to say the least.
  3. Welcome! Hopefully the world visit feature will go in fairly quickly.
  4. I honestly haven't ever RP'd on a trial account, so I don't have much advice there. But, I did want to say welcome and I hope you enjoy your RP here in FFXIV!
  5. You can play anything with the right backstory. The limitation to White Mage is mainly that, lorewise, the only non-Padjal White Mage is the Warrior of Light...and that's it. However, the devs have suggested that there might be other ways to acquire knowledge of White Magic, and there's nothing to say that your character can't be an exception. Not to mention that you don't even really have to be a White Mage (or Scholar) to have powerful healing magic - almost all of the spells a White Mage uses to heal are actually Conjury spells, so you could conceivably be a Conjurer and have a lot of healing ability. As far as Scholar goes, the only issue there is that you have to come up with a decent backstory to explain how you got a hold of a Scholar Soul Stone, since that is what the fairies are apparently bound to. I feel like I should summon @Sounsyy in here to dump the lore. I'd offer more information, but it's after midnight and my brain is jelly.
  6. I'm not Sounsyy, but as I understand it, she's basically done nearly every quest in the game and saved screenshots of the quest text and dialogue.
  7. Yeah I'm kind of...curious, I guess? Splitting the community across multiple pages seems a bit silly, and they tend to fizzle as it is. Plus, I'm not keen on moving my information to a new wiki when I already have one here.
  8. No, "just any old soul crystal" wouldn't work for Machinist, primarily because their soul crystals are manufactured and completely blank. If you came by another soul crystal, it almost certainly is already aligned to another Job, with memories and abilities already stored inside. I'm not entirely sure about the second question. It's never been entirely clear in the quests I've followed, but I bet @Sounsyy would be the one who would know.
  9. Oh that would be lovely! It's always made me so sad that Ishgard has such pretty locations, but basically no interior spaces and 85% of the city is inaccessible.
  10. They're rebuilding Ishgard? Did they explain what they meant by that?
  11. Some jobs are also a lot easier to come by than others. For instance, Machinist is brand new, and the soul stone you receive is basically blank (because that's how new the job is). So it's relatively easy to do that. Same with Astrologian - there's a school for it in Ishgard proper. Other jobs are way more esoteric or rare, such as Scholar, Summoner, White Mage, and Black Mage. Those are "lost" arts that are difficult to come by, and in the case of Black Mage, without an actual soulstone, you immolate yourself.
  12. Hi! Quick question, because I think this is important for any other questions - what do you want your character to be? Like, what kind of personality do you want your character to have? What do you want them to do, what is their goal? Most people shy away from placing their character directly in the Main Story Quest, simply because it's considered kind of...presumptuous, I suppose. Can you accomplish what you want with your character without having them be an Allagan who somehow got preserved in Dalamud and brought back during the Calamity? Edited to Add: Also, welcome!
  13. Hello, welcome! I'm not on Mateus, but I hope you have a great time and find a good group to RP with quickly!
  14. Well, my personal advice would be, don't. At least, it's fine, I think, for you to be multiple classes, but Jobs are very, very specific and, in the case of Scholar, incredibly rare. Arcanomancy is widely taught, Machinist is a "new" Job that is actively being taught in Ishgard, gathering and crafting aren't hard to believe. But all of that plus Scholar is...a bit hard to swallow. Is there a reason why you want to be an IC Machinist and an IC Scholar?
  15. I don't play a Garlean, but I wish you luck in your endeavor! I hope you find lots of people interested!
  16. I swear I'm going to get this updated. I'm trying to figure out how to un-clusterfuck the code in the original post.
  17. Hi, this thread hasn't been used since January/February.
  18. It's not really my cup of tea, OP, but realistically, it's your sub that you pay for. Play what you enjoy.
  19. People are weird. There's not really any explanation for why they did that - again, people are just weird. I wouldn't let it get to you. If someone is that odd, you're better off not RPing with them, tbh.
  20. That's pretty much the definition of RP that I've seen, for the most part. However, realistically, you're going to encounter crazy every now and again. I try to avoid crazy, but we have a shiny Blacklist for the crazy that tries to crawl into our RP. Yes. The main story of the game affects everything that happens, even if you are not playing a character directly connected to the situation at hand. Most players at the very least acknowledge the events going on in the main story. Well, I am unfortunately on Balmung, which is locked at the moment because of population. But, my main group that I roll with is called Roll Eorzea, and they're basically a structured RP group where we all sign up to be tortured by Verad. I also have a few other friends I RP with from time to time. I think that, for most people, a ridiculously overpowered character would just be a huge turnoff. Most people accept injuries, and want to RP them out. Some people don't, but I don't really RP with those people. You get one free month of time with ARR, iirc. If you pick up the Complete Edition (which is honestly the most value for your money, as Stormblood alone is $39.99), you're looking at $59.99 USD. I don't know how that translates in your country's currency. If you are content with only having one character on your server, you can get a subscription for as low as $12.99 USD a month, but the standard subscription is $14.99 USD. I poked around Amazon and found this ARR/Heavensward Bundle for like, $15 bucks: https://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-XIV-Online-playstation-4/dp/B00UO4NL9Y/ref=sr_1_12?ie=UTF8&qid=1528946690&sr=8-12&keywords=final%2Bfantasy%2Bxiv&th=1 (check the "see all buying options" and there's a list of different places, and a mix of new or used games). Those seem to all be physical games, however, which means there might be a delay in you getting them. You do not have to level to max level to be "viable" for RP. The last major storyline I was involved in, one of the main characters was level 33. The only thing that not being higher level does is prevent you from using certain gear (so you may not get the exactly look you want) and prevents you from going to certain areas. For instance, you cannot access the Heavensward zones until you've started the Heavensward main story quest, which requires you to complete the ARR main story quest past level 50. Stormblood is a bit less restrictive, as it doesn't require you to have completed the previous expansion's main story quest, but you cannot access places like Kugane and Ala Mhigo until you've started on that main storyline, and even then, they unlock at certain points (I didn't get to Kugane until level 63 I think?)
  21. Hi. That's okay! FFXIV is set in a world separate from other Final Fantasy titles, though, to be fair, each Final Fantasy game is in a completely different, unconnected setting. Though, there are suggestions that there may be some kind of connection. Final Fantasy is a high-fantasy setting. It's very high magic. For some people, that doesn't mesh well with their desire for "realism," so I wanted to make sure I point that out! I'm not sure I completely understand this, but there are many roles available in the world of Hydaelyn. Even just questing, you will encounter everything from simple farmers to filthy rich nobles to literal temple knights to people who can literally talk to the spirits of the forest. There are pirates, and there are simple soldier grunts. There is technology (in the form of magitek), but the majority of people don't have any real access to it. Most of this is just going to depend on what groups you end up interacting with, but I have seen all of the scenarios you talk about in my time RPing in the game. I mean, realistically, we're all nerds. We are, after all, playing a video game where we pretend to be fantastical creatures! RP guilds work like any other guild, I suppose. They're just...guilds. In FFXIV, they're called "Free Companies." They're far more similar to a WoW guild than an ESO-style guild. Linkshells are a completely different kettle of fish - they're more akin to what you would have encountered in ESO as "guilds." You can be in up to 7 linkshells. If you're interested in looking at RP guilds and Linkshells that are recruiting, you can check out the Free Companies and Linkshells tabs up top. As to your question about races, I don't think any races are considered "gimmick" races, although there are a lot of Miqo'te and Au'ra these days. Eorzea is very high magic (as is Hydaelyn as a whole, really). In fact, magic is so strong in Eorzea that it posed a very strong threat to the Empire of Garlemald when they first encountered Eorzean magi. There are healers that can bring a person back from the brink of death, potions that can change your appearance (literally), an entire Class/Job that, in terms of the storyline behind it, were literally drawing power from a stolen dragon's eye (because dragon's eyes apparently have a lot of magical power). There are magi who can lay waste to entire areas with their spells. At the same time, most people aren't magical, and most people don't have access to things that the Warrior of Light (which is who you are in the quests themselves) has. It's completely possible to play a perfectly ordinary character, without any magic at all. Personally, I think Stormblood is absolutely worth a purchase. But it's a somewhat big investment, so I completely understand if you just want to buy the ARR/Heavensward bundle. Trust me, there are many more people here who are twice the trouble you've been so far! Anywho, welcome! I hope you have a lot of fun!
  22. Her surname is Garlean. Rem is her rank, Lupis is her unit, if I'm not mistaken.
